SHARE:

Back in September of 2023, we asked Mr. Will Bowen if we could honor his many years of service to the organization, and he accepted. After his passing, his family shared that Will would have wanted us to move forward by celebrating his love for Pro-Vision, Inc. by honoring his memory at the Gala, and so we shall.

Please join us in honoring the memory and celebrating the life of our esteemed Board Member and long-time friend, Mr. Will Bowen, at our Mardi Gras Gala on Thursday, April 18, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at The Forest Club, 9950 Memorial Dr., Houston, TX 77024. This Gala will pay tribute to Mr. Bowen's unwavering commitment and passionate support for Pro-Vision, Inc.

Character Development

The start of the new year lends itself to reflection and intentional goal-setting for the year ahead. For Pro-Vision, Inc. Character Development, we approach this with the needs of our young people and community in mind. This is a time not only for revitalization but also an opportunity to intentionally work towards our goals in the coming year. With determination, Character Development will continue to focus on program growth and building upon the academic, social, and economic opportunities for our Character Development members.

Moreover, 2023 saw the continuation of on-campus mentoring through Character Development Tier I at Pro-Vision Academy, expanding our reach and providing character education to a greater number of students. This included lessons on moral character, responsible and ethical decision-making, social awareness, self-management, and high school readiness, along with engaging educational field travels. As we look ahead to 2024, we remain committed to sustained growth in our programs, with a focus on member and volunteer recruitment, training initiatives, and alumni engagement.

PRO-VISION/MCNAIR URBAN FARM

The Pro-Vision/McNair Urban Farm plays a vital role in our ecosystem. It serves as a healthy resource by introducing and teaching modern agriculture techniques to young men and women and their families through its farming programs. The Pro-Vision/McNair Urban Farm partners with H-E-B and local restaurants to grow and sell its produce. The profit made from the produce sales is then reinvested into the farm and the Pro-Vision, Inc.'s programs. The Pro-Vision/McNair Urban Farm consists of aquaponic-based greenhouses. Aquaponics is one of the most sustainable farming methodology models and is an environmentally friendly way to grow fresh, nutritious, and organic products. In this system, farmed fish supply nutrients to plants grown hydroponically, purifying the water. Aquaponics uses up to 95% less water than traditional soil farming. Because water is recycled and used repeatedly as it flows through our systems, very little is lost to evaporation, and the only water used is what the plants take up through transpiration.

We're thrilled to announce that in 2023, we were granted a generous donation from Green Mountain Energy Sun Club to fund the expansion of our aquaponic greenhouses! With the expansion of the greenhouses, we will be able to grow more produce and have a 50% increase in produce sales, allowing us to reinvest our giving access to increase to the Sunnyside Community families we serve. Thank you to Green Mountain Energy Sun Club for your invaluable support of our Pro-Vision/McNair Urban Farm. We're deeply honored to have you as our esteemed partner in sustainability.
