Exhibition continues: Friday 12th September - Saturday 4th October

This September we're delighted to announce 'Exploring Photography.' This exhibition will be a part of the inaugural, biennial festival, Photography Oxford. We've selected three artists: Rory Carnegie, Rachael Edgar and David Rhys Jones  all of whom work using photography as part of a wider practice. They push the boundaries of photography by using experimental surfaces, digital media and vintage techniques. We would be delighted to see you at our private view, on Thursday 11th September, 6-8pm here at the gallery, where refreshments will be served.

Rory Carnegie is an award-winning photographer based in Oxford. His work has been published in The Observer, LA Times, The Telegraph Magazine, The Sunday Times, GQ, The Independent Magazine, Creative Review and the British Journal of Photography.

Working with local dog owners and walkers, Rory has completed a series of photographs documenting dogs that walk on the Meadow each day. He has photographed the meadow throughout the seasons, composting images in layers, creating an ethereal, portrait likeness. As a result they are almost painterly in quality, taking after classical animal portraits from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Rachael Edgar is a recent graduate of Buckingham New University, completing an MA in Printmaking. She is best known for creating surreal images based on song-lyrics, poetry and folklore. She has created a new series of contemporary work using a very early photographic process, first used by the likes of Fox Talbert - so taking photography right back to its origins, to create something entirely new.

David Rhys Jones trained at Central Saint Martins and since then has exhibited widely, including at The V&A Museum, the Royal Academy of Arts and the Courtauld Institute. In 2010, he was joint winner of the Jerwood Contemporary Makers Prize.

He specialises in using ceramic combined with photography, creating sculptural works that vary greatly in size and media, from larger installation pieces, or smaller, wall-mounted pieces that act as a series or exploration of a place.

For his show at Sarah Wiseman Gallery, David will continue with his explorations of Oxford. In his usual style, he will be searching out the hidden lanes, and pockets of history tucked between the colleges.
