Dear Friends,

Last month we had Scott Griffin of Griffin Glass Tools doing our monthly Troy Night Out demo. We had people coming in from all over the Northeast to check out Scott's demo as well as the shop. One group of guys came from Connecticut to look for and pick up some heady glass. We had just set up Scott's case by the viewing window when one of the guys decided he wanted the centerpiece, a large natural to shrink perc bubbler, which was one of three that Scott made last year. The night was off to a great start. Scott decided to throw down on one of his layback rigs. He brought a couple as examples of what he was going to make so that viewers that came in passing could get an idea of what the finished piece would look like. There were quite a few newcomers that stayed to watch Scott all night. Scott had a table set up with a bunch of his company's tools that are listed among the necessities for lampworkers, which was awesome. It was great having Scott working in the shop and he left us with a beautiful piece that reflects his style. Thank you Scott! Make sure to keep up to date with issues of The Flow because this piece will be a featured tutorial in the fall.

We are currently down in Austin, TX for April 19th-23rd.  Our first stop is the Armadillo Art Glass Initiative, which Brad and I will be doing a demo for.  We will also be participating in the  Glassroots Art Show, which is the first time that this trade show will be held in Texas. For more information on either event click the links.

This month we welcome Danny Camp from Portland, ME for our Troy Night Out demo. Danny started blowing glass in New York in 2007. He moved up to Portland in 2010 and that is when glassblowing became his main focus. We are glad to have another New York native representing at this month's Troy Night Out.

If you're interested in just taking some beginner classes follow the link to the schedule for when we are having group classes that begin next month. Upcoming Group Classes Available

The line-up this year is amazing!  Our Troy Night Out  demos are going to be great and have been great thus far! This year we've also expanded upon our educational side by offering more weekend classes with some of the most well-known names in the business. Make sure you check out the schedule on the side of the newsletter for more information.

Make sure to check out my upcoming tutorials  in The Flow Magazine.

Thanks again for all of your continued support and hopefully I will see Friday night April 26th for Danny Camp's demo!

Sincerely,

-Phil Sundling

Mummies? Easter Island Heads?

This month we have Danny coming to us from Portland, ME to do a demo.  Danny has been glassworking since 2007.  Although a native of New York, Danny relocated to Portland in 2010. We are excited to be having another New York native throwing down for this month's Troy Night Out. The image above is Danny's interpretation of the graffiti artist Faro's work.

This piece shows off a bit more of Danny's sculpting work.  Recently he made a collab piece with BMFT that also features his

Easter Island head sections.

Last Month @ PGW: Scott Griffin

Of Griffin Glass Tools

Scott started off the night by making some stripe-stack/dot-stack sections.

This became the center section of the can on the rig.

Scott was about to weld the downstem into the rig.

This is the bottom sections of the neck.

Here Scott is shaping part of the mouthpiece.  This is another dot-stack section bringing
the aesthetics  of the piece together.

The mouthpiece and neck became more elaborate as it came together.

 The rig started coming together.

Scott decided to make the piece a layback rig in the same manner as some of the pieces he had on display in the gallery.

There was crowd surrounding him all night. A few new comers stayed all night to watch Scott work.

Here Scott is adding the last dot-stack horn.

Congrats to March's Raffle Winner!

2013: A year packed with great artist demos and classes

2012 was pretty amazing, but we believe 2013 has a chance to top it.  Phil has been studying and refining the guest list for months! With stellar results obviously! We are now running mid month classes with some of the best, which are separate from our TNO exploits.
Stay tuned to Like us on Facebook,Follow us on Twitter,Find us on Google+ for more info on the upcoming classes and TNO updates!

April 26 - Danny Camp

Joining us from Portland, Maine, Danny Camp's style ebbs and flows with the industry.  Lately, he has been doing these interpretations of NYC graffiti artist 'Faro'.  We are pumped to have him.

May 25-26-27 - Robert A. Mickelsen **Class**

Last year, we had Robert here for our Jan TNO Demo, as well as our first weekend class.  Robert had so much fun up here in the northeast, we had to get him back.         The curriculum is still up in the air, but the dates aren't.  If you missed out of the class, be sure to get in early, I am sure this will sell out QUICKLY. This is Memorial Day weekend, so we will be having a barbecue to celebrate the holiday as well. We will be accepting partial payment in trade after reviewing your portfolio.

May 31 - Burtoni

Straight baller level status right here! Most of you are so not ready for the energy and amazing skill that is the boss, Ben Burton.  He is bringing his ninja skills and flamingo powers to what will prove to be one of our more.....animated nights. I can't wait for May!

June 28 - Boxfan

It's strange how a man that you only see a handfull of times a year, can seem so much like family.  This June, we are elated to welcome in one of the titans of the industry, Mr. Box Fan.  He is also one of the main founders of 'The Flow Magazine', one of the staple periodicals in glassblowing today.  When we saw him last in Madison, he was talking all sorts of crazy nonsense for this upcoming event. Don't miss out on June.

July 26-28 - Eusheen: TNO & **Class**

Eusheen is known throughout the industry for his razor sharp, and vivid philachello work. Usually accompanied by flowing horns and tight reversals, Eush's work is unmistakable. Not mention he is a great guy! We are stoked to be having him up for our TNO event, and workshop! This is going to be an ultra valuable class for those wanting to learn new pattern techniques and large, LARGE scale construction.  Again, we are anticipating high interest for the workshop, so be sure to get ahold of us soon. We will be accepting partial payment after reviewing your portfolio.

August 30 - Sept1 - Micah Evans: TNO & **Class**

We are pleased to have yet another amazing artist into our studio, as this August we welcome Micah Evens.  Micah lately has been doing these awesome explorations into clear, with astonishing results.  Also, Micah has been producing some awesome Networked Sculptures.  Again, Micah will be here on Friday for our free TNO event, and we will be holding a workshop through the weekend.  Spaces for all these classes are limited to be sure to inquire early. We will be accepting partial payment in trade after reviewing your portfolio.

September 27 - Tubeapalooza III Feat. Boro Farm

The juggernaut returns, this year we are featuring our friends over at the Boro Farm.  Herb, Craig and the rest of the farm hands are going to make a cross country venture to show us some west coast style.  They were also kind enough to ship us out some goodies for this upcoming Tubeapalooza on Friday.  Come check out whats to come.

October 25 - Joe Peters & The Chesterfield Glass Art Collection.

Last time Simon came to town, we were able to put together a wonderful evening for the arts.  This year we aim to trump our inaugural year with the Chesterfield Glass Art Collection. I know Simon had mentioned while he was here that he had underestimated the capacity that our gallery can accomodate.  You know he will not make the same mistake twice.  Joining Simon this time round, is a very talented Glass artist in the North East. His work reaches new levels of impeccable and immaculate.  Please help us welcome in a Glass Blower's Glass Blower, Joe Peters.

November 29 - Tammy Ball

Holy moly, this will be our fourth time with the incredible Tammy Ball.  Her energy is amazing, her laugh is infectious, and every time she gets together with Phil, they make something amazing.  First Year - Alice in Wonderland.
Second Year - Big Lebowski. Third Year - Caddyshack.
Fourth Year - ?. You never know what they will cook up next.
