Press Conference TODAY at Noon -  Click Here for Details

IS IT PRINCIPLE OR
POLITICS?

Many of you are asking the $64,000 question of today, "How will you vote in the current 2014 NH U.S. Senate race?"  Our dilemma is truly moral in nature.  Each of us will wrestle with the underlying question of will we put principle above politics or politics above principle?  By the way, this is not the only contest in America where this challenging decision is presented to the voter.  And one other item to consider, this ballot has more than one race on it.

Casting a vote for the political expedient will in

potentially

remove Harry Reid as the President of the Senate.  We could theoretically loose other U.S. Senate seats in the nation and this scenario could also fail.

Casting a politically expedient vote for the "better of two evils" could impact the appointment of Supreme Court of the U.S. justices.  Need I remind you that it was Republican Presidents who gave us David Souter, Sandra Day O'Conner and John Roberts?

And as reliable as the politically expedient possibilities are the projections of the political pundits who say the shift in the U.S. Senate will be towards a Republican majority by 1-3 seats without the coveted NH seat.

All of the above is speculation.  In the end, I personally must tackle the moral question.  This country was founded on Biblical principles.  The foundational document of declaring our independence from the crown states that our Creator gives we the people the inalienable right to life, not government.  And while I have a duty to my government, my moral obligation to God supersedes that governmental obligation.  And so, I turned to the Bible to see what guidance I could find.

Please indulge me by reading through my findings:

We know that all leaders are appointed by God.  Romans 13:1

No authority except from God and those which exist are established by God.  We are to choose the fear of the LORD.  Proverbs 1:29

We are to choose wise and discerning and experienced men from our tribes and God will appoint them as our heads.  Deuteronomy 1:13

[He] has set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse.  So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants by loving the LORD your God by obeying His voice, and by holding fast to him; for this is your life and the length of your days... Deuteronomy 30:15

(These next two verses apply to our speculation over control of the Senate and the Supreme Court)

Your thoughts are not my thoughts, nor your ways our ways. Isaiah 55:8

There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.  Proverbs 14:12

(As to the choice of candidate and their stand on Biblical truth and rights from Our Creator)

He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous, both of them alike are an abomination to the LORD.  Proverbs 17:15

And you who fear the LORD, trust in the LORD.  He is their help and their shield.  Psalms 115:11

He will bless those who fear the LORD.  Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and turn away from evil.  Proverbs 3:7

...'Do not fear or be dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours but God's.  2 Chronicles 20:15

..."Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today.  Exodus 14:13

For this reason, take up the whole armor of God so that you may be able to take a stand whenever evil comes. And when you have done everything you could, you will be able to stand firm.  Ephesians 6:13

"Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." Psalms 46:10

On November 4th as the conscientious citizen enters the polling booth they will have to pray for guidance and the three choices before them are clearly stated by
Rev. Thomas J. Tobin, Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence
.

``The first is to choose the candidate, who in traditional terms, is the lesser of two evils. Let's just say, for example, that one candidate promotes an extreme position on abortion, welcomes the endorsement of and eagerly embraces the evil agenda of Planned Parenthood, supports partial-birth abortion and disdains the sincere convictions of pro-lifers; and another candidate would restrict abortion in some circumstances, opposes taxpayer funding of abortions and is willing to work with and respect pro-lifers - a voter might properly choose the second candidate even though the position is flawed.''

``Secondly, as a kind of protest, a voter could decide to write-in the name of someone who represents pro-life values.  In this scenario, one might vote for St. John Paul, Mother Teresa, Pope Francis or our own local pro-life hero, Baby Angela.''

``Finally, a voter might well decide to skip this year's election and not vote at all, or at least not vote for a particular office. Although Catholics have a general moral obligation to participate in the life of our nation, there are many ways to do that, and there's certainly no obligation to vote in each and every election."

The final outcome will be between God and the individual. Will you choose to stand firm and strong with Him and will you put your trust in Him for the outcome?

One last thought...we the people, will be choosing representatives to serve at all levels of government.  Thus we should be seeking God's guidance as we enter the voting booth, and applying the same standards, just as we are currently wrestle with the candidates for U.S. Senate.  But above all, please participate and vote!

Blessings,
