DON'T MISS YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN

Thursday evening, I had an opportunity to see the Pen Drama production of Young Frankenstein.  Our students are incredibly talented and they had me laughing from start to finish.  Mel Brooks would be impressed with their performances.  The show is rated PG13.  Following is the summary of the plot,

"Frankenstein returns to Transylvania and the old ancestral castle, where he is awaited by the faithful houseboy Igor, the lab assistant Inga, and the mysterious housekeeper Frau Blucher, whose very name causes horses to rear in fright. The young man had always rejected his grandfather's medical experiments as impossible, but he changes his mind after he discovers a book entitled: "How I Did It" by Victor Frankenstein. Now all that's involved is a little grave-robbing and a trip to the handy local Brain Depository, and the Frankenstein family is back in business." Ebert

MASAO "MAS" TAKAHSHI TO VISIT PEN HIGH TOMORROW

AP US History students have viewed the movie, "The Unknown Warriors" and are looking forward to meeting 91 year old Masao "Mas" Takahashi, a highly decorated second generation Japanese American (Nisei) veteran from World War II that was awarded the Bronze Star and Congressional Gold Medal. Mas served as a rifleman, and B.A.R Technical Sergeant with the 100th Infantry Battalion. The Battalion's reputation led to the formation of the segregated Army unit, the 442nd Regimental Combat Team (RCT). Their courageous exploits on the battlefields of Europe were legendary. Mas was involved in the Champagne Campaign in France and the Po Valley and Gothic Line operations in Italy. By the end of the war, the 100th/442nd RCT ultimately distinguished itself as the most highly decorated unit by size and length of service in the 238-year history of the U.S. Army. Mas is one of the original members to help form the "Go For Broke" organization that preserves the legacy of extraordinary service by Japanese Americans during World War II. Peninsula High is truly honored that Mr. Takahashi will be sharing his story with our AP US History students.

THE AUSTRIANS LEAVE AND THE JAPANESE ARRIVE

THANK YOU TO OUR PANTHER FAMILIES FOR HOSTING AUSTRIAN STUDENTS

Four days before the Austrian exchange students arrived, we still needed homes and the Panther family came to the rescue.  It really did take a village to make this visit special, so thank you to all who helped in big ways and small ways.  I believe this email from Pen parent, Janet Louie, sums it up:

"It was a wonderful experience for us to host Daniel Wachter and Alexander Stadler for 2 weeks.  I wanted to say thank you to the Luis', Quons and Ngs for rides for the two boys.  Thank you to Jonathan Low for taking them to the Korean BarBQ and Kory Joe for allowing them to shadow you each day, to Samuel Lui as a junior and to Emily Schluper for allowing them to shadow you as a sophomore for 1 day. Our freshman Daniel enjoyed being the host student as well.  Thank you to the Lai family for taking them out to dinner and for allowing them to experience a ride in a new Corvette and for driving other students on Saturday to and from Disneyland.  I appreciated Caroline Judge (another host family) taking the boys to Walmart and Laser Tag on Sunday after an exhausting soccer weekend for me with Daniel's games and referring 3 games as well. Thank you to Kako Silvestre and Jacquie Lew and Lisa Alon for yummy pasta, lasagna and sushi when I was too busy or too tired to cook.

It truly was a community effort and I am grateful for all of your help and support."

Thank you Panthers for truly being a family.....I can only image what the stuents are sharing back home about their first experience in the United States.  It was great to see them cheering our sports teams on and becoming honorary members of the "ZOO."  After one game, a mom shared that she was touched when they yelled, "WE WON!"  The "we" is important because this school community in so inclusive.  Thank You All!

OUT WITH WINTER AND IN WITH SPRING

Thank you to our Winter Athletes for such an enjoyable sports season.  All of our teams did well!  It was great fun to have so many playoff games.  I was proud of "The Zoo," whose spirited enthusiasm made for many memorable moments for both fans and our talented athletes. Let's keep supporting our athletes by showing up to games and competitions through the Spring season.  Go Panthers!

The Best Zoo Ever!

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

Students are not allowed to park on residential streets surrounding the school.  Students have been parking on Fond Du Lac and blocking driveways.  Students will be ticketed by the Lomita Sheriff for parking on residential streets.

Skills for Independence students are picked up by taxis curbside at the north end of the Silver Spur building near the gym.  Please be extra cautious and patient as we help students into their taxi.  There have been some impatient parents at pick-up who perhaps do not understand the safety issues surrounding the safe transportation for these students.  The students are generally picked-up before the sixth period bell, but if they are delayed, I expect everyone to ensure their safety.

PLEASE BE PATIENT!
