* COMMUNITY * ANNOUNCEMENTS

Good Evening Fullerton Families,

We are entering our last month of school and it definitely feels like a race to the finish line! We're having a lot of exciting events and celebrations along with many end-of-year competitions! Our Instrumental Music teams did amazingly in their competitions and ALL of our Spring Sports Teams have made it to the playoffs! Our students are talented, athletic, and academic!

We also celebrated Commitment Week! Whether our seniors decided to go straight to a 4-year university, a community college, or a technical school, our students have chosen their next steps and first steps into adulthood! We couldn't be more proud of all of our seniors and excited for their futures. It was so much fun to celebrate them and have their family and friends here to join in!

This coming week also brings AP and IB Testing! Scroll down to see the schedule for testing over the next two weeks. The last grade progress reports are being turned in by teachers on Monday. Please check in with your student and log on to your Aeries Portal so that you can support them in these final weeks.

Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week! Make sure to thank your teachers for all that they do for our school community!

Activities

Crime Lab Field Trip

Thank you to Mr. Pitochelli and Mrs. Hill, for an amazing field trip. AP Physics 2 students were given a private tour of the LA Regional Crime Lab by Forensic Scientist Dr. Katheryn Sanchez (aunt of student Isaiah Ervin). The students learned the type of work and scientific analysis performed in each of the following departments: Alcohol & Toxicology, Arson, Narcotic, Questioned Documents, Serology-DNA, Firearms, and Field Investigation. This was a great opportunity for our students to see the application of the concepts they learned in their high school biology, chemistry and physics classes.

Photography Field Trips

In the month of April, Advanced Photography and AP 2D Photography went on a field trip to LACMA. We took about 100 students over a three-day period. It is part of our mission in the visual arts program to have students experience and see professional-level work. We want our students to engage in the final step of being an artist having an audience experience artwork. For some it was their first time in LA and/or a Museum. We had so much fun and joy on top of the educational benefits!

Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. As we head into finals and other exams, we hope you as both staff and students remember to take care of yourself and your well-being. We will be celebrating and honoring mental health awareness month with a weekly theme. Remember, there is support for you on campus - we have two Mental Health Specialists every day of the week in room 124, Mr. David Saldana and Ms. Staci Balliet. Take a deep breath, you got this, you can do hard things!

In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month coming up in May, OCDE is hosting a presentation for parents, caregivers, educators, and support systems of youth. One is on "Cyberbullying and Digital Drama" and the second is several options for helping students through crisis/trauma (2 options for parents, 1 option for educators & support staff). These are free events and interpretation in Spanish will be provided.

The school district also has many mental health resources, including Care Solace. Please follow the links to learn more.

Softball

FUHS Softball goes into CIF Playoffs as the 3rd-place team in the Freeway League. It’s been quite a few years since the Fullerton Ladies have achieved such a feat! We’re looking forward to the run! Brackets come out on Saturday, so we’ll see where we’re playing and let you know.

Baseball

An emotional Senior Day on Tuesday where the Fullerton Tribe battled against Troy to secure sole Freeway League Champions. Senior Pitcher George Papadatos took to the mound for the Fullerton Tribe. In the bottom of the 2nd inning, with Papadatos stealing 2nd after a drawn walk, doubles from Miguel Velasquez and Niko Savage cashed in the first 2 runs of the game. In the bottom of the 3rd inning. Senior Conor Sunderland (leading the Freeway League in HRs) slashes a double past Troy's 3rd basemen, Senior catcher Nate Norman hammers a line drive off the centerfield fence to score Sunderland. Papadatos also contributed with his bat as he homered to deep left field in the bottom of the 4th inning to take the 4 to 0 lead.

In the bottom of the 5th inning, Sunderland hammers another double to right center, then with Norman up Sunderland advances to 3rd base on a pass ball and Norman walks in his at-bat. With Sophomore Malachi Meni up, Troy's pitcher tries to pick off Norman at 1st base and makes a wide throw to first base allowing Sunderland to score the Tribe's 5th run for the day. Papadatos completed the game by throwing 7 shut-out innings and striking out 5 Troy batters. Fullerton 5 to Troy 0.

On Thursday, Fullerton traveled to Troy for the final league game for the season having already clinched the Freeway League Champions.

Fullerton took an early lead in the game in the top of the 1st inning when Sophomore Zach Fany drew a leadoff walk. He later scores when Junior Niko Mendez hammers a single to center field. Senior Pitcher Matthew Carbajal got the start for the Tribe throwing 5 solid innings. Fullerton added 3 more runs in the top of the 4th inning, runners Kyle Kim, Miguel Velasquez, and Niko Savage all scoring to take a 4 to 0 lead. In the bottom of the 5th inning, Troy scores a run but the Carbajal gets out of a bases-loaded jam with a double play up the middle to end the inning. In the top of the 6th inning, the Tribe added an insurance run, when Mendez doubled to deep centerfield followed up by a fielder's choice by Sophomore Malachi Meni to advance Mendez to 3rd. The next batter, Senior George Papadatos drives a single up the middle to score Mendez, score now 5 to 1 Fullerton. Relief pitchers Eddie Advita and AJ Hernandez, throw in the 6th and 7th innings respectively to secure the 5 to 1 WIN for Fullerton.

One Last Game for Baseball:

On Friday, Baseball had a make-up game vs. Bishop Amat here at FUHS. Ending the regular season on the last day of play, senior NATE NORMAN hits a WALK-OFF HOME RUN to help the TRIBE beat Bishop Amat 8-7. Now the boys are off to the playoffs starting next week.

Congrats to Fullerton for ending the league with an impressive 9 and 1 record. CIF-SS playoffs will begin next week.

JV Baseball got in on the fun this week with a 22-7 victory over Troy to close out the season.  Now its time to get ready for some to be on varsity next year.  Good luck to everyone.
