HOME RUN: BAYSOX ROCKET THEIR WAY TO EASTERN LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP |
|
Team reaches the top of the mountain, first championship in franchise history...
What matters is not how you start, it's how you finish. As the region's baseball giants (Washington Nationals and B'more O's) sit on the postseason sidelines (dreaming of what could have been), the Bowie Baysox continue the glow of baseball champion.
Last month, the blazing Bowie Baysox (Double-A minor league affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles) closed the season strong to win the regular season division title and their first Eastern League Championship.
Much love to the mighty "Sox" for bringing the championship home to Prince George's County.

IN SHOWDOWN OF MARYLAND CRAFT BEERS, FRANKLINS SELECTED AMONG STATE'S VERY BEST |
|
Hyattsville brews takes top honors at annual Brewers Association of Maryland competition...
The event, sponsored by the Brewers Association of Maryland, featured 26 Maryland breweries. Mike Franklin tells us Franklins won more medals than any other brewery.
Franklins also got top honors for most gold medals, tied with Heavy Seas Brewery in Halethorpe. In one of the categories (Sour Beers/American Milds), Franklins won the trifecta - Gold, Silver, and Bronze.
The BAM "Best of Show" awards will be announced soon and judges sent seven of Franklins' beers to the best of show round. Far more than any other brewery, according to Mike.

UMD NAMED ONE OF THE 50 MOST BEAUTIFUL CAMPUS QUADS IN AMERICA |
|
Scenic campus receives national attention from "College Rank"...
The University of Maryland is the flagship of the University System of Maryland. As such, it is also held in high regard for its academics, programs, research, the arts, athletics, and community engagement.
Now we can add "campus beauty" to the illustrious list. Recently, College Rank named UMD one of "The 50 Most Beautiful College Campus Quads" in America. Campus Quads serve as communal spaces where students, faculty, and visitors study, gather, and enjoy a park-like setting.
According to the article and list author, "We took an in-depth look at hundreds of campuses across the country and over many hours cut our list down to 50 very deserving schools. We considered factors such as size, campus programming and events, weather, history, and above all else, aesthetics while compiling this list."

CPM is one of only four hotels in the country with such credentials...
This is quite an accomplishment. The College Park Marriott Hotel & Conference Center has reached the pinnacle of Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED). It was recently awarded LEED Platinum certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.
This places College Park Marriott in rarefied air. There are only 19 LEED Platinum certified hotels in the world. And, College Park Marriott is the only Platinum certified hotel in Maryland - and is one of just four hotels in the entire country to receive the Council's highest honor - PLATINUM.
