PRESS RELEASE

miSci Planetarium Experience Raffle to Benefit City of Schenectady School Students’ Free Neil Golub miMembership Program

Schenectady, NY (May 16, 2023) - The Museum of Innovation and Science (miSci), announced today their Planetarium Experience Raffle. This unique opportunity features a private concert, for 50 guests, under the stars with local chamber music group, Musicians of Ma’alwyck. The experience will take place at miSci's Suits-Beuche Planetarium and is valued at $5,000.

Under the artistic direction of Ann Marie Baker Schwartz, Musicians of Ma'alwyck recently performed at miSci's Planetarium in March, where they played music by Sir William Herschel, an 18th century composer and the father of Early Modern Astronomy. Only 100 raffle tickets are available for $50 each, making this an exclusive opportunity to enjoy a private concert under the stars.

All proceeds from the raffle will benefit the newly re-named Neil Golub miMembership program, that provides every student in the Schenectady City School District with a complimentary year-long Family Membership to miSci. This program, which launched in June 2022, represents a $1.3MM investment in STEAM educational outreach in the local community and Schenectady youth.

Schenectady native and former marine engineer, Jackie Rowen, now a 7th Grade Information Technology teacher at Oneida Middle School feels very strongly about the impact of the Neil Golub miMembership program, “Everything has to do with STEAM these days. It’s the way the world is moving forward. If you want to move forward, students have to have an understanding of math, science, computers, coding and programming!”

Raffle tickets are now available for purchase. The drawing will take place in mid-June to coincide with the second year of the gifting of 10,200 free Family Memberships to all City of Schenectady students.

In addition to the grand prize, there will be two runner-up prizes of "Behind-the-Scenes Collection Tours" offered to lucky winners.

We’re thrilled to again offer this unique initiative, in honor of our chairman Neil Golub, that will benefit City of Schenectady youth and their families.” said miSci President Gina Gould. “We’re grateful to Musicians of Ma’alwyck for their support and partnership in making this raffle possible.”
