Sturbridge, M.A. – As summer begins in New England, Old Sturbridge Village is excited to welcome visitors to indulge in ways to break the heat while enjoying our upcoming activities Swing into Summer: Baseball and BBQ, Independence Celebration, as well as Redcoats and Rebels

Baseball and BBQ occurring on Friday, June 28th – Sunday, June 30th visitors will learn about the history of baseball and be able to step up to bat. The menu at Bullard Tavern will include items from the grill and in the Scoop Shop ice cream will be served. There will be opportunities to play classic early American games on the Common, meet and greet our sheep, chickens, cattle, and pigs, and learn about summer in 19th-century New England. To cool off, be sure to stop by Ox & Yoke Café for a seasonal special of ice-cold strawberry lemonade. To purchase tickets for Baseball and BBQ, please visit https://www.osv.org/event/baseball-and-bbq/.

March into the Fourth of the July with our Independence Celebration running from Thursday, July 4th – Sunday, July 7th! We will have fife and drum music, cannon demonstrations, games, a parade, and more. Hear special readings of poetry and the Declaration of Independence. Join in a game of baseball, or watch a toy hot air balloon take flight. Marvel at the work of our skilled artisans and tradespeople and more. Independence Celebration is sponsored by Savers Bank.

On July 4th only, the Village will host a Citizen Naturalization Ceremony. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will present candidates to the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, and they will pledge their Oath of Allegiance to the United States for the very first time. The Citizen Naturalization Ceremony typically takes place on the Village Common, and there is plenty of space for families of the new citizens and the general public to watch. In the case of rain, the ceremony will be moved inside, and priority seating will be given to the families and friends of those who are becoming new citizens. For more information and to purchase tickets please visit, https://www.osv.org/event/independence-celebration/.

Redcoats & Rebels returns on August 3rd and 4th. See the largest military re-enactment in New England with hundreds of costumed Revolutionary War reenactors, both soldiers and civilians, encamped on the Village Common. Visitors can explore our exhibits and galleries, watch demonstrations, and talk with our costumed historians about everyday life in early New England. In addition, visitors can tour the camps, witness recreated skirmishes and battles, see special presentations, chat with guest craftspeople, and enjoy fife and drum music. Due to the popularity of this program, pre-registration is highly recommended. Redcoats and Rebels is sponsored by Dexter-Russell.
