NEW CLASSES FOR KIDS & ADULTS AT THE WILBURY THEATRE GROUP
PROVIDENCE, RI: The Wilbury Theatre Group, Providence's up and coming professional theatre organization, announces new theatre classes for all ages this summer in their historic theater space at the Southside Cultural Center located at 393 Broad Street. Whether you are an adult looking to polish your auditioning techniques or a teenager looking for a program that has everything from stage combat to costuming, the Wilbury Group's summer classes are an affordable way to keep your love of acting alive this summer. The Auditioning Techniques class runs on Mondays from 6:30-9:30pm beginning on June 24. This seven week class will focus on finding and rehearsing monologues and assisting students in the art of the cold read. This is an opportunity for actors to work with instructor Wendy Overly who is a resident actor at the Gamm Theatre in Pawtucket and was most recently seen in their production of The Beauty Queen of Leenane. In addition to her work with them, she directed Body Awareness this season at the Wilbury Group and teaches theatre at Rhode Island College. Learn more.
In July, an Advanced Acting class for ages 16 and older will begin on Wednesdays evenings from 6:30-9:30pm. Instructor Claudia Traub, who has more than 25 years of acting and casting experience and currently teaches at both University of Rhode Island and Providence College, will chose one scene for the students to work for the entire seven week course. Using this scene, advanced acting techniques will be explored including voice and physical work. Learn more.
In addition to classes focusing on the adult actor, the Wilbury Group's Youth Program is offering week long teen theatre camps for ages 12-14 (July 8-12) and ages 15-17 (July 15-17). Taught by Gamm Theatre resident artist Karen Carpenter, recently seen in critically acclaimed performances in Body Awareness and The Threepenny Opera with the Wilbury Group this season, students attend from 10am-2pm daily with a focus on developing acting techniques. Additionally, each day of the week spent exploring another element of theatre including stage combat, improv, and makeup and costume design. Learn more.
