BURLINGTON, IOWA - The Capitol is proud to announce May's film schedule, including a marathon back-to-back showing of all 3 original Star Wars trilogy films (Episodes IV, V, VI), Pixar's animated hit Up, the seasonal classic Twister, a Ukraine: Films & Conversation evening with 2 documentary filmmakers, as well as a special theater fundraising documentary showing of Marqueetown.

Celebrating International Star Wars Day on Saturday, May 4th is the marathon showing of the original Star Wars Trilogy, starting with A New Hope (Episode IV) at 2pm, The Empire Strikes Back (Episode V) at 4:30pm, and Return of the Jedi (Episode VI) at 7pm. Each film is rated PG with tickets available for $20 for all 3 movies, or $10 per individual film. On Tuesday, May 14th at 7pm The Capitol is proud to present Ukraine: Films & Conversation, with two travel documentary filmmakers, Rick Ray of Los Angeles and Robert Rose of New York City, for a special presentation of their films and experiences in Ukraine amidst the ongoing war. They share stories of the Ukrainian people. Stories of hardship and inspirational strength. This is a FREE event, made possible by the Community Foundation of Des Moines County.

Returning to The Capitol on Friday, May 17th at 7:30pm is the seasonal favorite Twister (PG-13), ahead of the anticipated sequel to the film coming in Summer 2024.

Closing out the month is a special theater fundraising showing of the documentary Marqueetown, on Saturday, May 25th at 7:30pm. Based on the work of Bernie Rosendahl, Marqueetown tells the true story of a Michigan resident’s modern crusade to restore the historic arthouse of his youth to its former glory, a quest that leads the filmmakers to discover a hidden cinema empire in the Upper Peninsula. In an effort to shine attention on cherished theaters in communities across the Midwest and directly support them, Marqueetown is flipping the script on the standard theatrical splits and donating 100% of all the ticket sales to each venue - funds that will go directly back to the hosts for operations, preservation, and maintenance of these local gems. As a historical and restored theater, The Capitol is honored to participate in this special event. Tickets are $10 and 100% of the proceeds go to The Capitol.

Unless otherwise marked, Movie tickets at The Capitol are $8 for adults / $6 for seniors, kids & students and are available for purchase at BurlingtonCapitolTheater.com & the box office.
