THE LOS ANGELES LATINO CHAMBER OF COMMERCE WELCOMES NEW BOARD MEMBER MOCTESUMA ESPARZA TO ITS BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Los Angeles, CA - December 4, 2017 - The Los Angeles Latino Chamber of Commerce (LALCC) welcomes Moctesuma Esparza, CEO at Maya Cinemas North America, Inc., as the newest member of its Board of Directors. Moctesuma joins a board of pioneering business leaders who have distinguished themselves as advocates and thought leaders for the Los Angeles Latino community.

Moctesuma Esparza is an award- winning producer, entertainment executive, entrepreneur, and community activist. The CEO of Maya Cinemas (a theater chain catering to the United States Latino audience) and the co-founder of new company Esparza/Caldera Entertainment (aligned with highly successful motion picture and TV movie producers Carolyn Caldera and Esparza Katz Productions), Moctesuma's strengths lie in acquiring, producing, and distributing multicultural and Latino themed products for various distribution platforms. Throughout his career, he's partnered with highly successful figures in the entertainment industry, including Robert Katz, Robert Redford, Jennifer Lopez, Andy Garcia, Jimmy Smits, Martin Sheen, Robert Duvall and Halle Berry. It's been through his contributions to the community, and commitment to creating opportunities for Latinos everywhere that Moctesuma has established a respected brand.

Moctesuma Esparza's successes in the industry become even more notable in light of the discouraging numbers related to Latinos in film and media. While Latinos are responsible for one in four movie tickets sold according to the Motion Picture Association of America, they remain underrepresented. According to UCLA's Hollywood Diversity Report, Latinos obtain only 5% of broadcast TV scripted roles and in 2016, only 5.8% of speaking roles.

"What Mr. Esparza brings to our team is the tenacity needed to bring Latino visibility behind and in front of the camera" says Executive Director of the LALCC, Moises Cisneros. "With so few Latinos present and leading in entertainment (despite the many Latino consumers supporting these industries), Moctesuma's role within the Board will play an important part in bringing Latino businesses and talent to the forefront of the entertainment industry".

Chairman of the LALCC Board, Gilbert R. Vasquez describes Moctesuma as a "powerhouse." "His understanding behind producing world-wide projects from the ground up and establishing significant relationships between consumer and partners is one that can help us in our goals. His influence in entertainment and knowledge with making Latinos known and relevant in the media is something that the board looks forward to utilizing for the benefit of Los Angeles Latino businesses."
