The Capitol Announces June 2024 Film Line-Up:

Lord of the Rings Trilogy (Extended Editions), American Graffiti, South Park: Bigger Longer & Uncut 25th Anniversary Sing-A-Long

BURLINGTON, IOWA - The Capitol is proud to announce June's film schedule, including the Lord of the Rings Trilogy (Extended Editions), South Park: Bigger Longer & Uncut 25th Anniversary Sing-A-Long, and American Graffiti.


Starting on Saturday June 8th at 12pm, Fathom Events presents the extended editions of J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic masterpiece Lord of the Rings Trilogy with Fellowship of the Ring (PG-13), followed by The Two Towers (PG-13) at 12pm on Sunday June 9th and The Return of the King (PG-13) on Monday, June 10th at 6pm.


Fathom Big Screen Classics brings the 1999 South Park classic South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (R) back to the big screen this June with a special 25th Anniversary Sing-A-Long showing at 3pm and 7pm on Sunday, June 23rd, as well as 7pm on Wednesday, June 26th! Sing along with the groundbreaking animated full-length feature film in this unique big-screen event. Stan, Kyle, Kenny, and Cartman sneak into an R-rated movie to see their favorite Canadian superstars. When their parents find out, they declare war on Canada. Now the boys have to stand up to their parents, stop World War III and get Satan back to Hell before he destroys the world. It’s all part of a young boy’s life in this quiet little mountain town.


Join us for a 50s & 60s Double-Feature Night on Saturday, June 29th! Start the night with live music from The Drive-Ins Rock & Roll Duo performing FREE in Night Cap Listening Lounge from 6-8pm followed by a showing of the classic film American Graffiti (PG) playing at 8pm (tickets required for the movie).


Movie tickets at The Capitol are $10 each for Fathom films and $8 for adults / $6 for seniors, kids & students for all other films. Tickets are available for purchase at BurlingtonCapitolTheater.com & the box office.

Located in the heart of downtown Burlington, the restored Capitol Theater recaptures an era when movies and live entertainment were enjoyed in beautiful and unique theaters.


This 1937 Art Deco jewel re-opened in 2012. The intimate 367–seat venue and listening lounge, Night Cap, host independent and classic films as well as local, regional, and national touring artists performing on a 1,500–square foot stage.


The Capitol is home to monthly films and concerts as well as host of the annual Snake Alley Festival of Film held each July, and Old Couch Music Fest, a free outdoor musical festival held each August.
