The Calhoun County Public Health Department (CCPHD) is keeping a close eye on COVID-19. Calhoun County, along with the rest of the US, saw a small spike in COVID-19 cases during the month of August, however total case counts were comparable to what was seen in August 2023.
The CCPHD is currently awaiting the receipt of the latest COVID-19 vaccine. We strongly urge residents to check our website for updates on availability and scheduling: COVID-19 Vaccine Information. Staying up to date with vaccinations remains a key step in preventing severe illness and keeping our community safe.
Our current recommendations are as follows:
Vaccination: The COVID-19 vaccines are among the most effective tools we have for preventing severe illness and hospitalizations. We advise keeping up with not only the primary series but also any recommended booster doses.
Staying Home: For both COVID-19 and other illnesses, it is essential that people stay home when they are sick. Even with mild symptoms, staying home helps protect others, especially those who are at higher risk of severe disease.
Testing: For anyone with symptoms or who has been in close contact with a confirmed case, we recommend prompt testing. For more information on COVID-19 resources, including vaccination and testing, visit https://www.cdc.gov/covid/index.html
