Successful 12 Month Extension for Sara Riel’s Warm Line

Winnipeg, MB – March 5, 2024


Sara Riel is excited to announce the successful approval of its application for the Sara Riel Warm Line 24/7 Vital Service to the Distress Line Equity Fund (DLEF), securing $239,222 in funding for the upcoming year with a renewed commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.


“This is tremendous news! This generous approval ensures that Sara Riel can continue to provide our vital 24-hour Warm Line to Manitobans for an additional year,” states Chief Executive Officer Tara Snider. “Since the pandemic began, Sara Riel has received well over 46,000 calls.”


Sara Riel recognizes the importance of creating an inclusive and welcoming space for everyone seeking support. Just under half of the calls received are resolved in less than 5 minutes (46.9%), with an average call length of 11 minutes. The Warm Line, while addressing various concerns and actively promotes diversity and inclusivity. Some of the key reasons for calls include:

-        32.4%   Loneliness/Isolation

-        19.6%   Anxiety/Fear

-        16.8%   Medical/Health Concerns

-        15%       Anger/Irritability

-        14.0%   Family/Relationship Stress

-        13.7%   Depression/Sadness
