A record number of students will earn associate degrees this year when Fullerton College celebrates the graduating class of 2018 at the 103rd Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 26 at 9 a.m. on Sherbeck Field. This is the third consecutive year Fullerton College has seen a growth in the number of degrees applied for and awarded.

Brantley, Serrano Selected as Students of the Year
Graduating students Robert Alan Brantley and Camille Serrano were named the 2018 Distinguished Students of the Year at the annual Students of Distinction banquet on Friday, May 11. They are among the 20 Fullerton College students who were selected as the 2018 Students of Distinction through a nomination process involving faculty, staff, and fellow students. The awards are divided into four achievement categories: Academic, Competitive, Personal and Service.

Hello Harajuku Fashion Show
Hello Harajuku is a student-produced and organized fashion show highlighting the vibrant and unique styles of Japan's Harajuku district. Fashion students have worked together to design and style looks inspired by the fashion trends across Japan for this year's annual Fullerton Department Fashion Show. It will be held at the Wilshire Auditorium from 6:30-9 p.m. on Monday, May 14.

Re-Entry Connect Student Success Conference
This event is on Monday, June 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Historic Patio Courtyard behind the library. Come join the fun and meet others with similar interests; free dinner and door prizes. Participants in the Supporting Men of Color (SMOC) online certificate program will share their learning and facilitate discussion about how SMOC principles and practices might be applied in special programs or Student Services. Women's Track and Field
San Diego Mesa College hosted the SoCal Regional Championships last Saturday where Myrna Gillas was tabbed the high jump champion! As a team, the Hornets ended up taking 14th place (out of 26 teams) with 11 points. Myrna Gillas locked down the title with her best jump of the season of 5' 5". That mark currently has her ranked third in the state with the two other ladies in this event coming from the north and only a couple inches above her. Fellow sophomore teammates Marianne Gourd and Yessenia Gutierrez competed in the discus. Each came out of the meet with throwing their best.
Gourd made it to the final round and had a five-foot PR with a toss of 113' 8" finishing in 12th place. Yessenia had a throw of 103' 2" for her best of the season.
Up Next: The State Championships at Bakersfield College May 18-19 where Gillas will compete in the high jump.
Hornet Athletes Honored
Congratulations to athletes Lael Cardinal and Noel Dominguez who were both selected as Students of Distinction in the Competitive Achievement category last Friday evening. Cardinal played on the Hornet tennis team the past two years and Dominguez was on the track and field team.

Student Art Exhibition
May 3 - May 16
This annual exhibition presents the best of the best artwork created during this academic year. Prizes will be awarded to the students who demonstrate the highest artistic merit. Many pieces are available for purchase.
Airline Highway
May 17-19, 7:30 p.m., Bronwyn Dodson Theatre
This play takes place in the parking lot of the Hummingbird Motel, off the titular highway near New Orleans where the hotel's residents have gathered to celebrate the life of Miss Ruby, an iconic burlesque queen who has been a mother figure to them all. Miss Ruby's life is nearing its end, and she requests that her funeral takes place while she is still alive so she can attend the festivities. As the Mardi Gras-esque celebration continues into the night, the stories of the residents, their pain and disappointments unfold.

Musicians at Work
May 17, 7:30 p.m., Campus Theatre
The Fullerton College Concert Choir is a large auditioned ensemble with both a regional and national reputation. The choir usually consists of about 85 members. They perform classical repertoire that spans across all musical styles and time periods. In recent years, they have toured during summers to the East Coast and Europe. They are also frequently invited to regional and national festivals and conferences.
