New York Yankees baseball star Bernie Williams, successful alumna Valerie (Gross) Paverd ’03, and global business Gallo were honored when the William Paterson University Foundation hosted its 33rd Annual Legacy Award Gala on April 17.
“All these individuals were once in your seats, and are willing to transfer the knowledge they gained,” said Venkat Sharma, dean of the College of Science and Health. “This is an opportunity to hear how William Paterson gave them a springboard to their careers.”
Every year, there are students who reach their last year or last semester at WP, and find that they simply can’t afford those last few courses. This event directly supports a fund that helps students complete the "last mile" to their degree.

In four events, WP honors students made sandwiches and handwritten cards, which were immediately distributed to people in need on the streets in Paterson via Paterson Cares.
Players recently took part in a team-only journaling session organized by head coach Jessica Jacobson and facilitated by creative writing professor Martha Witt.
