It's National Small Business Month | |
As we continue to celebrate small business month, it seems appropriate to consider women-owned small businesses.
Now, don't get the wrong idea, we love all small businesses, no matter who owns them. But, the US Small Business Administration (SBA) has published some very interesting facts worth sharing.
- In 1972, there were a little over 400,000 women-owned businesses in the United States.
- In 1988, women still needed a male relative to co-sign if they wanted to apply for a business loan
- In 1988, the Women's Business Ownership Act passed in the 100th Congress on an overwhelming bipartisan basis, to allow access to capital to provide financial assistance toward women-owned businesses. It was signed by President Reagan on October 25, 1988
- In 2019, women-owned businesses represent 42% of all US businesses
- In 2019, women-owned businesses generated $1.9 trillion worth of revenue
- Today, there are over 13 million women-owned businesses
Of course, Prescott led the way, with its foundation of strong women in our history, such as Sharlot Hall, who single-handedly led the effort to have a Museum here in Prescott; Viola Jimulla, who was the first Chieftess of a Native American Tribe in the US, leading the Prescott Yavapai Native American tribe; and Grace M. Sparks who was with the Prescott Chamber of Commerce from 1911-1945.
At the Prescott Chamber, we want you to know that whether you are a woman or a man, if you're willing to work hard to follow your dreams, we're here to provide whatever assistance we can.

Here at the Prescott Chamber, we love this networking event!
These mixers provide a unique opportunity to build professional connections, meet fellow Chamber Members and develop soft-touch skills. Feel free to show up early to build connections and eat some breakfast before the event starts.
Once Coffee Connect begins the host will welcome everyone and will be provided a short time to talk about the location. Then Chamber Members are separated into groups of six. The designated head of the table (usually a Chamber Ambassador) will give each individual two minutes to deliver their 'elevator pitch' on their business.
After the twelve minutes are up, the participants will be asked to rotate to a new table.
This happens three times with a chance to have a quick 'Lighting Round'.
What: Coffee Connect
When: Wednesday, May 24, 2023 - THIS WEEK!
Time: 7:30 AM - 9:30 AM
Where: The Finn
Address: Touchmark at the Ranch
3180 Touchmark Blvd.
Prescott , AZ 86301
