The Prescott Bluegrass Festival

It's almost here!

The festival started as a fiddle contest dedicated to a local fiddler. In the mid-80's it took on the character of a typical bluegrass festival. Until the mid-90’s, the event was held at Watson Lake Park, and then moved to its current downtown location on the Yavapai County Courthouse Plaza in 1996.

At that time the event changed character again to one with FREE admission. It remains the only FREE Bluegrass Festival of its caliber in the western United States. Financial support comes from local businesses, Lamb Chevrolet, the City of Prescott, Arizona Commission on the Arts and many additional Friends of Bluegrass, as well as raffle sales, festival tee shirts and the festival program.

The Prescott Chamber of Commerce coordinates this FREE festival and strives to bring audiences a variety of bluegrass shows: traditional and contemporary; national, regional, and local groups; family and non-family bands – while maintaining the highest standards for the music.

Ribbon Cuttings

Congratulations to

The Lookout!

We had a great turnout for The Lookout ribbon cutting held Thursday June 8. Thanks to all who attended to help get The Lookout's new facility introduced to our community. The owners are Eric and Gayla Moore, and the store manager is Ryan Crouse.

Eric's interest in birds is a lifelong passion that began when he was five years old in Massachusetts. The store is located at 1230 Willow Creek Road, formerly where Habitat for Humanity was located. Drivers on Willow Creek can't miss the store as it has three large bird models designed for the wind to catch. The store has everything one could imagine for watching birds and also a huge collection of Hallmark Cards.

Prescott Mayor Phil Goode gave Eric and his wife Gayla a Certificate of Recognition from the City of Prescott. There were a number of city officials as well as many other community leaders that took part in the ribbon cutting. The ceremonial "First Dollar" Certificate was presented by Chamber Board Member Margo Christensen, V.P. of Marketing for Ponderosa Hotel Management Services. The Emcee for the event was Ambassador Lesa West and Robert Milligan filmed the event for the city.

What a great weekend at the Plaza across from the Chamber in downtown Prescott. Vendors from all over had a wide range of selections for the many Prescott folks and visitors.

The Chamber manned the Gazebo and handed out a lot of information on our area. The Prescott Regulators and Their Shady Ladies put on several wild west skits just adjacent to the Court House. Another very creative individual had a bubble device making giant soap bubbles for the cars passing the corner on Gurley across St. Michael's Hotel.

Congratulations to Yavapai County and Sheriff David Rhodes on the successful completion of the Yavapai County Justice Center. They celebrated their Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting on June 14.

Coffee Connect

This is one of the Prescott Chamber's most anticipated and loved networking events. These mixers provide a unique opportunity to build professional connections, meet fellow Chamber Members and develop soft-touch skills. Feel free to show up early to build connections and eat some breakfast before the event starts.

Once Coffee Connect begins the host will welcome everyone and will be provided a short time to talk about the location. Then Chamber Members are separated into groups of six. The designated head of the table (usually a Chamber Ambassador) will give each individual two minutes to deliver their 'elevator pitch' on their business. After the twelve minutes are up, the participants will be asked to rotate to a new table. This happens three times with a chance to have a quick 'Lighting Round'.

The next Coffee Connect is on Wednesday, July 26th from 7:30-9:30 AM at Hotel St. Michael.
