How long you’ve been in business: ILPA began as Prescott Area Imagination Library in 2019 and expanded to become ILPA when we began covering all of Western Yavapai County in early 2022.
Services or products you offer: ILPA registers children, raises funds, maintains a database of registrants, promotes and markets the program, and works with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to send each registered child an age-appropriate book every month until the child’s fifth birthday. These books are free to registered families and have no additional requirements beyond residency in Yavapai County and the child being under 5 years of age.
What sets you apart?: With the support of our Community Sponsors, ILPA has been able to expand the program’s reach to cover all areas in Yavapai County that did not previously have access to a Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library affiliate. Since our expansion we have grown by 160% and as of July 2023, we serve over 1850 children from across Yavapai County.
Years of research and dozens of studies point to the same thing: reading to children from the time they are born is critical to literacy development and academic success. Research shows that access to high quality children’s literature has a tremendous impact on children’s early literacy development, which in turn impacts their overall school success in subsequent years. The books from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library encourage parent involvement and create a home library to help engage parents and children in reading together.
