Over the weekend, two lightning-caused wildfires started in this area.

As of this morning, the Grapevine Fire on Mingus Mountain, is at 400 acres. It is approximately 10 miles east of Prescott Valley, 2 miles south of Mingus Spring Ranch, with low/moderate fire behavior.

Ryan Barela’s Arizona Central West Zone Type 3 Incident Management team assumed command of the Grapevine Fire this morning. Right now, there are 2 Type-1 Crews, 2 Engines, 1 Type 3 Helicopter and additional support personnel.

Yesterday afternoon, the Racetrack Fire was identified. This fire grew rapidly due to monsoon winds, and, as of last night, was up to 500 acres. The town of Cherry has been evacuated, and other communities are on the “Set” list. Shelters and the Call Center have been activated for both fires. Animal Disaster Services and Red Cross shelters are at the Camp Verde Gym, anyone with barn animals can take them to the LASER Shelter at Arizona Downs off Hwy 89.

3 Type 1 Hotshot Crews, 1 Type 2 Cres, 5 engines, 2 Suppression Modules and 1 Dozer have already been assigned to the Racetrack fire, with aviation and ground resources focused on slowing progression towards the community of Cherry.

Please understand, information about wildfires rapidly changes and by the time you read this, there may be more to know and learn about these fires. We will do our best to keep you up to date on this rapidly-evolving situation via our Facebook page.

Yavapai County has created an Emergency Information Hub. Here you can find information about Current Incidents, Evacuation Information, Weather and more.

Finally, please remember that all of us are currently in Stage 1 Fire Restrictions.

Yavapai County Emergency Information Hub

Stage 1 Fire Restrictions went into effect last Thursday, June 29th, in all of Yavapai County.

Please help keep our community safe.

Stage 1 Fire Restrictions

A public service announcement:

Together We can be Prepared

Arizona’s hot and dry weather puts our state at risk for wildfires, from the forest areas of northern Arizona to the Valley where wildfire risk is rising. A lot of APS equipment, including the power lines that bring electricity to our communities, runs through these areas. That means, for APS, we prepare and respond to wildfires year-round. Check out what we do to keep you and our communities safe and the power on.

Yavapai County is asking for help regarding local Internet Access

Recently, the State of Arizona was awarded $993 million in Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) funding. BEAD funding is intended to expand broadband to those with no access to the Internet or very slow connectivity.

Part of the grant also supports helping citizens to connect to the Internet, learn about the devices needed, and how to use the Internet safely. Please fill out the survey below to help with this effort so that these funds can be directed as best as they possibly can. The link is below:
