Project Lifesaver:
As of 2023, Project Lifesaver remains vital to our public safety initiatives, with 118 actively enrolled individuals. This proactive program specializes in helping individuals with Autism, Alzheimer's, Down Syndrome, and related disorders who may wander from safe locations and require aid in returning to safety. Project Guardian:
The Harris County Sheriff's Office has an initiative called Project Guardian, where caregivers can provide vital information to assist deputies in safely and effectively responding to individuals with special needs. Currently, the program has over 300 registered individuals, with ongoing monthly expansions highlighting its critical role in protecting vulnerable members of our community.
Chief's Meeting:
Commissioner Garcia was invited to speak to a group of area Chiefs of Police from across agencies that serve areas within Harris County. Commissioner detailed all the various recent investments and measures taken to improve public safety such as the Violent Persons Warrant Task Force, additional funds for intake at the jail, investments on the backlog, ARPA DV initiatives, CPTED/Nuisance Abatement and the $100M LE infrastructure and much more. The audience of dozens of Chiefs appreciated the opportunity for the open dialogue with the Commissioner.
