My Morning Star

O Jesus, grant me hope and comfort; O let me ne’er in sorrow pine.

My heart, my soul, yea, all my being, O Jesus trust alone in thee.

Thou prince of peace, thou pearl from heaven, true God, true man, my morning star.

O come, thou precious sun most radiant, thy beams illumine my heart, my soul.

- Wilhelm Osterwald, 1820-1887

MLK Day Activities

In recognition of Martin Luther King day this Monday, January 15, we invite you to honor this transformative leader by taking part in one of the many events planned throughout our city, including a parade and service opportunities. Click here for a list of activities.

The Gospel of Matthew

In telling the story of Jesus, Matthew challenges his disciples to live each day as participants in God's kingdom--to be poor in spirit and pure in heart, turn the other cheek and love one's enemies.

January 7 - March 24 | Phifer Library & Zoom

Class recording: January 7

The Seculosity of Marriage and Parenting

Statistics show that fewer and fewer Americans are attending church, but author David Zahl argues that we are in fact more religious than ever. Using his funny and insightful book, Seculosity, we will dig deeper into three of the areas that can consume us as adults - Busyness, Relationships, and Parenting – and learn what to do about it.

January 7 - March 24 | 2nd floor conference room

The Gospel According to Ted Lasso:

This five-week class will use the TV show "Ted Lasso" as a way to explore the gospel, how we’re called to live in community, and reflect on our relationship with God and others. You do not need to have watched the show to attend class.

January 7 - February 4 | Land Building Riverside Room

Class recording: January 7

Classes for all ages meet at 9:30 a.m. See our Sunday School page for details.

Making Giving Easier

We believe Christian stewardship is a personal covenant between an individual and God. In this covenant, we acknowledge that God is creator and owner of all things, and everything we have is a gift from God to use for his glory. There are many ways to support the church financially. Now may be the time to consider making your Stewardship donation by TRANSFERRING STOCK to the church. To affect such a donation, please contact Emily Fleshman, Accountant, in the church office, 504-897-0101 x113 or emily@scapc.org.

Aden Program: Armchair Travel Series

As we kicked off the new year at Aden, we enjoyed a new Armchair Travel series! We saw one participant’s journey through Europe and then learned about Florida. We had a great time as we reminisced about other travel adventures and learned some fun new facts along the way. We are still in need of volunteers on Tuesdays. If you’re able to lend a hand, please use this sign-up link and contact Kasey Bealer at (504) 710-6345 for more information. Our program can only grow to serve all in need with the help of volunteers!

Chris Currie to Preach at APTS Lecture Series

Our own Chris Currie will preach at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary's 80th annual MidWinter Lectures later this month! The conference will include "groundbreaking scholars and practitioners who will speak to contemporary issues in the church and society, sure to ignite a lively exchange of ideas and perspectives". The series will run January 22-24 and Chris will preach on Tuesday, January 23 at 5 p.m. Details and registration can be found at this link. We will post a sermon recording when it becomes available.

YAF PINTS at Bruggers/Chaney Home

PINTS (Presbyterians Imbibing in Necessary Theological Study) for Young Adults & Families will resume on Wednesday, January 17. PINTS meets weekly on Wednesdays from 6:45-8:15 p.m. for faith discussion and adult beverages. We regularly meet in the Land Building, however on January 17 we will meet at the home of Jessie Bruggers and Sean Chaney. Contact Tyler Wheeler for details.
