PRAIRIE WEEKLY

Thursday

February 29, 2024

God, my maker, hold me this day,

with the same hand that shapes the mountains,

with the same hand that cradles the deep.

Keep my heart soft and supple,

make my faith strong and firm.

Renew me, re-form me, re-create me

into the image of Jesus Christ the Lord. Amen.

Church Announcements

Easter Baskets: As Easter is approaching, the Christian Ed Committee is looking for donations of Easter baskets/buckets, wrapped candy, unwrapped candy (which will be put into plastic eggs), and small toys/books. The Sunday School children will be building Easter baskets for donation to the Salvation Army on Palm Sunday (March 24th) so the deadline for donations is Sunday, March 17, 2024. If you prefer to have the Christian Ed Committee shop for you, we will happily accept monetary donations.

Prairie Pals: The March meeting of our Prairie Pals women’s group will be held at church Friday, March 8 at 10:00 am (please note the new time). As usual, please bring whatever you want for your lunch. A dessert and beverage will be provided. If possible, please let us know if you will be able to join us.

Governor Evers has declared March 8 as “Share the Goodness Day” in Wisconsin. Cathy will provide us background and information on this day to inspire a global day of explosive goodness! Please wear some yellow if you have it to help spread the sunshine. Part of our program will be coloring book marks so please bring some colored pencils to share if you have them.

To help “Share the Goodness” please bring a donated item or monetary donation as listed by the Christian Ed committee for the Easter Baskets that will be assembled by our youth on Palm Sunday. These baskets will go to the Salvation Army.

We will have a fun treat cup activity that will remind us of some of the meaning of the Easter story.

Hostesses for the month are: Judy, Marilyn, Jackie, and Cathy

The March Cart Item Is: Canned Vegetables! The items will be divided between local food pantries. Thank you to everyone who helps fill the cart! Thank you for bean-ing a friend to people who are in need. You are all such sweet peas.

Lenten Series: Rev. Bruce will provide three opportunities for the Lenten Study Series. The theme comes from two books: Amazing Grace: A Vocabulary of Faith, by Kathleen Norris, and What's So Amazing About Grace, by Philip Yancy.

Days and times are:

  1. Tuesday at 10 am during regular Bible Study,
  2. Wednesday at noon
  3. Thursday at 5 pm

Each time will be the same theme with a time for a light meal and fellowship. If you cannot make one time, maybe you can connect at another.

At each of the studies, there will be a light lunch of soup and bread. There is a sign up sheet on the table in the Narthex for you to sign up to bring a soup or bread for the Wednesday or Thursday Lenten Study.

Birthday Greetings: We would love to see your name and birthday in the Prairie Press so that people can send you well wishes and love. If you are interested in having your name and birthday in the publication, call the office or leave a note on Sandi's desk with your information. Also, you may add it on the church directory draft copy that is located near fellowship hall.

Ushers and Greeters Needed: We would always love for you to be a greeter or an usher. There are empty Sunday's that need to be filled. If you are available, please sign up for a morning or two. Thank you!

Aluminum Cans: If you did not know, we collect aluminum cans. Bring in your empty, rinsed out cans. Toss them into the blue barrels that are located outside the front entrance. They are then taken to be recycled, and the proceeds go to the Living Water Mission.

Sunday School: Sunday school for all ages starts at 9:15am. Adults are studying the Gospel of John with Tom Rios.

Prescription Bottles: Thank you all for bringing in your empty prescription bottles. RPPC is rocking! Please continue to bring them in. HealthNet re-uses those medicine bottles. If you cannot get label off, blacken out the information so it cannot be read. Thank you!

Pastoral Care: If pastoral care needs arise, please call Rev. Bruce Jones at 608-205-7428 to assist you with emotional, social, and spiritual support. If you or a family member are admitted to the hospital, the best practice if you'd like a pastoral visit is to call Rev. Bruce instead of expecting the hospital staff calling the church office. Please do not hesitate to call at any time of day or night for pastoral emergencies.

Lost & Found Box: If you are missing anything, be sure to check the lost and found box that is on the floor in the coat closet.

Books Galore!: There are many interesting books available to you in the Sonshine room anytime of the year. Feel free to take some for your enjoyment and summer reading. You may bring in your books that you are finished with and we will add them to our shelves for others to read.
