Dr. Jinaan Jawad
This month's interview is with Dr. Jinaan Jawad who is an inspirational chiropractor in Winfield, Illinois.  

Dr. Jawad uses Acupuncture, Chiropractic Neurology, Nutrition, Exercise, and Low Level Laser in his practice, and he is an Adjunct Professor of Human Anatomy and Physiology as well.

S&F: Please tell us about yourself.  Where did you graduate from, how long have you practiced, exercised, competed.

Dr. Jawad: I graduated from National University of Health Sciences as a Chiropractic Physician in 2003. I have been in Private Practice since 2006.

 

Since then, I have competed in 10 bodybuilding competitions from 1997-2003. My picture was published in Exercise for Men Only magazine to feature an article.

 

S&F: Who/what inspired you to become a chiropractor?

Dr. Jawad: Reading Flex Magazine, Muscle & Fitness, MuscleMag when I was younger influenced me to become a Chiropractor.  My father was a Cardiologist & Internal Medicine specialist and my Mother was a Nurse Anesthetist.  So, I knew I always wanted to be a Doctor.  Franco Columbo, Jack LaLanne,  Dr. Tom Deters, and most of the contributing writers for the magazines were Chiropractors and a Chiropractor 'fixed' my low back pain in my teens. I knew this was the Profession I wanted to be in.

 

S&F: How would you describe your current practice?

Dr. Jawad: I believe in treating the person as a whole and this inspired the successful practice I have today. This desire motivated me to obtain my Fellowships in Acupuncture and Chiropractic Functional Neurology, and a Diplomate in Chiropractic Neurology, as well as extensive hours of metabolic and nutritional studies. I am an Adjunct Professor of Human Anatomy and Physiology as well. I feel I am well versed on current protocols and well versed on biomechanics.

My practice, designed by my Wife, is more like a 'home' setting with colors, furnishings, and fixtures that are warm welcoming and healing. Like my father before me I spend time with my patients and treat them like family. I offer a wide variety of health services to our community and stress the important of educating our patients on the benefits of living a healthier lifestyle.

 

S&F: Tell us more about your typical day.

Dr. Jawad: I wake up at 4 am and in the gym by 5 am.  I start seeing patients at 8:30 am and go to 6 pm Monday's & Wednesday's; 7 pm Tuesday & Friday's.  Monday & Wednesday evening, I am lecturing from 7 pm to 10 pm at the local junior college teaching students about Human Anatomy and Physiology. During my breaks I get to relax and unwind by walking my dog Ella. If I do find myself with any down time I love to listen to podcasts from other health professional that help me to be a better and more informed Doctor. 


S&F: What are some of your favorite accomplishments?

Dr. Jawad: Seeing 'that look' on a patients face when you know you really helped them.  There are many accomplishments over the past 10 years that I have experienced.  However, in the end, it is that feeling you get when you know YOU made a difference when no one else could.  I am a competitive and driven person my nature so this pushes me to be the best I can be. My background in Acupuncture, Chiropractic Neurology, Nutrition, Exercise, and Low Level Laser has helped me achieve 'that look' to help my patients. 


S&F: What are some of your favorite Erchonia equipment applications?

Dr. Jawad: The use of the Erchonia Laser protocols help me get my patients much better and has been a tremendous supplement to Chiropractic care and Acupuncture. I enjoy using the Laser on all of our patients that come in with chronic aches and pains that have not been resolved through other modalities.  


S&F: Where do you see yourself / your work in next 3 / 5 years?

Dr. Jawad: My goal: Adjunct Professor teaching classes, Practicing in my Practice a few days a week, and teaching seminars on the weekends.  My ultimate goal is to be a highly sought after teacher in my field that takes me to different parts of the world on a regular basis, and have my practice as a supplemental income where I am referred only the complex and difficult cases.


S&F: What is your professional practice involvement in the strength / fitness industry?

Dr. Jawad:  Doctors---whatever field you are in - if they are in shape. They are the 'walking advertisement' for their business.  How can you take advice from an overweight Doctor?  Being in excellent physical shape translates daily to my Practice; my patients know that 'I practice what I preach'. Plain and simple. 


S&F: What is your opinion of today's' trends in the insurance practice and/or cash practice?

Dr. Jawad: Insurance companies/FDA/Big-Pharma rule the roost now days.  The system is 'broken' but, this is not the way it should be fixed.  I believe in actually 'helping' the patient to get them better.  Where are the days when the Insurance company was interested in patient health?  Now they are just trying to tell us how, when ,where, and why to treat our patients. A patient nowadays can get a prescription for drugs easier than they can get a Chiropractic care. That does not make any sense! The current system is pushing all of us solo practitioners to join the big medical groups that are controlled by the insurance companies or HMO's. A cash Practice looks like the only solution.  Get rid of Obamacare- period.

Dr. Jawad:  'Body for Life' by Bill Phillips
