Equipping farmers to build resilient farms and communities.

Rachel and Alec Amundson of Osage, Iowa, operate Green Country Farms raising corn, soybeans and rye. The Amundsons use cover crops, no-till and have been relay cropping since 2018.
In 2021, Alec Amundson, Sam Bennett and Steve Saltzman participated in a Practical Farmers of Iowa on-farm research project that compared how fungicide and neonicotinoid insecticide soybean seed treatments affected soybean plant populations, yield and profitability.
The farmers were curious about the profitability of neonics versus fungicides, and wanted to gather data on their own farms that could help them make the most informed decision for their farms while balancing pollinator and environmental health.

New in 2022, we are excited to work with farmers to increase precision conservation on their farms by helping identify areas that perform poorly and plan ways to convert those areas to habitat. In addition, PFI will start offering dedicated business and market analysis to fruit, vegetable and livestock farmers to identify pain points and opportunities for growth.
Like our other cost-share programs, these new initiatives will provide farmers with important financial and technical assistance. This support lets farmers try new practices that improve their farm’s resiliency while lowering the risks of doing so.
