April 3rd marked the first day of classes in the new Lineta Pritchard Pottery Studio, and we had some enthusiastic students! We heard over and over that they had been searching and waiting for a pottery studio to open in our area and were thrilled when they finally heard about this opportunity to learn.
Clay is a medium that does not seem to intimidate people like painting or drawing might. As a result, people of all ages and skill levels feel comfortable getting their hands in clay. Working with clay, whether you’re hand building a form or wheel throwing, is great therapy and students often leave our studio feeling more zen than when they arrived.
Our regularly scheduled classes are designed for ages 16 and up, but we wanted to give children the opportunity to learn the medium as well. So, we have set up kids’ camps in the pottery studio through the month of July. These three-day camps will give children ages 8-15 the opportunity to throw on the wheel and hand build a form in clay.
For the first time, the Art Museum is offering regularly scheduled evening classes, and they have been the most popular! They also allow us to accommodate a wider demographic who may not be able to come to a daytime class.
We have had several potters with experience signing up for our classes, but the majority of the students have never tried it before. It’s been great fun to share this medium with so many interested learners.
