Potential Re-Count in Mayoral Race, Affordable Housing Just for Artists, More Methamphetamine Contamination, and More!

Here are some of the stories we are following this week. Connect with us on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram for up-to-the-minute news.

  • Colorado Springs mayoral candidate Sallie Clark, who placed third in the vote tally, was considering asking for a recount of votes. She had concerns about the costs of a recount to the city, which is a refreshing change of pace from a politician.

  • The municipal election in Colorado Springs will be certified this week. A mayoral runoff election between Yemi Mobolade and Wayne Williams will be scheduled in the coming weeks.

  • Mayoral candidate Sallie Clark has decided not to pursue a recount in her run for office.

  • Outgoing Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers is reflecting on his 8 years in office.

  • Speaking of unethical government behavior, almost $300,000 of Colorado taxpayer money has been used to fund private weddings. Yes, private weddings. When we say bureaucrats see you as their personal ATM, believe it.

  • The HVAC system at the Mountain Metro downtown bus terminal is being tested for methamphetamine contamination. This testing will determine how significant the contamination at the bus terminal is.

  • This week in “Never Letting a Crisis Go to Waste”, Governor Jared Polis has plans for centralized control over land use under the guise of “affordable housing.” The town of Monument, Colorado, has decided to push back

  • UPDATE: Colorado Springs has joined Monument in pushing back on this massive power grab by the Polis administration.

  • One proposed bill in the Colorado Legislature would impact open meeting laws, and allow some elected bodies to keep secrets about what they talk about behind closed doors. The public should have full access to meetings they are charged for through tax payments.

  • The Colorado Legislature has passed laws capping rental security deposit amounts and also income requirement for renting properties. The assault on rental property owners in the name of “affordable housing” is underway.

  • The historic library in Manitou Springs will get an upgrade, including ADA compliance.

  • In just over two years, Colorado Springs Police calls for service at the Citadel Mall have increased 60%. Most of these are shoplifting issues. What role does criminal justice reform play in this increase?

  • One El Paso County Commissioner, Cami Bremer, specifically asked Colorado Springs City Council to take action on a water rule that would be in the financial best interest to her. Now, Ms. Bremer is being investigated for this.

  • “Stakeholders” want to know how you get around if you go downtown. So, toward that end, the city is installing sensors to monitor how you get around. Why isn’t leaving people alone on the menu anywhere?

  • The heavily taxpayer-subsidized Olympic Museum is now offering free admission to educators and kids on certain weekends in April.

  • An incident involving the beating of a homeless man in Pueblo is under investigation. The homeless man apparently assaulted a teacher, and citizens violently detained the man.

  • If you would like to help support us in our mission as government watchdogs by becoming a Newsletter Sponsor, we are offering two sponsorships for each weekly newsletter, at the nominal cost of $100 each. Funds raised from these sponsorship opportunities will help us to keep looking out for taxpayers.

Here are some upcoming meetings in the area. We hope you can attend one or more!

If there are other public meetings you’d like to see announced here, please drop us a line. We are happy to include them in an upcoming newsletter. These might be government-related, candidate, or elected official meetings. Thanks!
