Disability Advocates,

As champions for the rights and well-being of workers with disabilities, we are at a crucial juncture that demands our immediate attention and action. Recent reports have brought to light a concerning development in Congress – a failure to reach an agreement over the weekend on funding for the remaining six FY24 appropriations bills.

These critical bills encompass Defense, Financial Services and General Government, Homeland Security, Labor-HHS-Education, Legislative Branch, and State and Foreign Operations.

The shutdown poses a significant threat to the broader public and, more specifically, the vulnerable communities we serve. Without the necessary funding, services and support systems vital for the empowerment and sustenance of workers with disabilities stand at risk of severe disruption.

Why This Matters to Us

The Labor-HHS-Education bill, in particular, is of paramount importance to our mission. It directly impacts the funding for programs and services that support workers with disabilities, ensuring they have the opportunities and resources needed to thrive in the workforce. A partial government shutdown would mean a halt or significant reduction in these essential services, affecting the lives of countless individuals who rely on them.
