Applebees is one of the more spirited cows in our herd. Her antics sometimes generate a bit of frustration for Herd Manager Blake Hansen -- and lots of laughs for the rest of us.😂
Applebees has spent a couple of weeks in a cozy space reserved for cows healing from minor injuries or illness. During the day, convalescing cows get a little exercise walking around the farm at their leisure. Most are content to calmly explore. Not Applebees. Never one to mind her own business, Applebees has reigned as the Queen of Ruckus during her rehab (and, well, pretty much all of the time.) We highlighted her most recent spree of shenanigans in videos here and here.
Based on this selfie by Farmer Blake, though, we're pretty sure there are no hard feelings between the two. 🥰🤣

In our second installment of Meet the Moo Crew, we're introducing Lisa Schmit, manager of our Waterloo store.
Lisa has led the store for more than three years. Previously, she managed a retail store at Crossroads mall in Waterloo.

Our March Customer of the Month is Shelly Anderson of Waterloo.
Shelly shops both of our stores regularly and is big fan of our cheese curds. She also loves Hansen's Coffee Ice Cream as well as our rotating flavors of soft-serve.
Shelly has visited our farm to see how our products are made and says supporting local producers is important.
"For one thing, you get a better product. You're not getting something that has sat on a shelf forever or something that is super highly processed," she explains.
Thanks, Shelly! Customers of the Month receive a $5 gift certificate to use at our stores and two free hands-on tour passes to the farm (a $40 value). You could be chosen by filling out an entry form at our stores or through your comments on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

Our March Cow of the Month is a favorite among farm visitors and staff.
Macey is a curious, gentle girl who's always up for being petted. She's politely passive, preferring to follow her Holstein friends around the barn rather than lead.
"She refuses to enter the milking parlor first," says Herd Manager Blake.
When she does enter, she's particular about where and how, and the milking crew always obliges.
Macey turns 3 years old in May and produces about 80 pounds of milk per day.

Here's an easy, tasty appetizer you can whip up for a game night at home or any gathering. It pairs well with crackers or tortilla chips (also sold at Hansen's Dairy stores) or fresh veggies on a relish tray.

Ingredients
- 1 8-oz package cream cheese, softened*
- 1/4 lb Hansen’s Dairy Dried Beef (about 1/2 a package)*
- 2 Tbsp Hansen’s Dairy Milk*
- 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 2-4 Tbsp dried parsley leaves
- Breton Crackers*
* Items that can be purchased at Hansen’s Dairy stores

Directions
- Finely chop dried beef. A small food processor works great.
- Beat softened cream cheese, chopped dried beef, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder and milk until well incorporated.
- Cover and chill in refrigerator for 2 hours.
- Shape into logs on a serving plate.
- Sprinkle dried parsley on top.
- Serve with crackers, chips or a relish tray.
