Why Should We Aspire to Have Good Posture?

To look better and feel better!

“In our fast-paced world, we often overlook the profound influence of posture on our health and well-being. Beyond aesthetics, posture plays a critical role in our physical health and mental state, even influencing stress levels.” -Source

Sometimes inspiration is the best way to learn:

What does good posture look like?

What does good posture feel like?

Good posture feels effortless, which is why traditional 'good posture' suggestions like throwing your shoulders back and sticking out your chest may feel uncomfortable too. Instead, listen to your body. Make minor adjustments while standing and sitting.

How to go from

HERE to THERE

If good posture will feel effortless, why don’t we all “have” it?

  1. Unlearning old habits
  2. Revitalizing our body
  3. Believe in ourselves

Old habits — think about it!

  • What positions are you in, most of the day?
  • When you are working (office, garden, kitchen.)
  • When are relaxing (taking a walk, watching TV,)

Revitalizing your body: If you don’t use it you lose it!

  • Stiffness
  • Weakness
  • Fear of pain
  • Fear of falling

What Happens to Your Body When You Don’t USE It?

Think about it!

  • It gets weaker.
  • It gets stiffer (often experienced as pain).
  • We lose confidence in our bodies and begin to fear pain.
  • Eventually, we may experience falls and develop a fear of falling

Is it hopeless?  Are we doomed?

Heck no!

Start using your body for more than work. Remember you have a body!

Take a walk. Learn some sport or physical activity you’ve always wanted to to do, Start yoga, Tai chi, Start singing with friends, in your church. Take a social dance class!
