Forever Grateful
Dear Friends,

Here we are just a few weeks into the new year and we're busier than ever, seeing patients, preparing for our May 8th Pink Pajama Party Fundraiser, staying informed regarding Covid-19 health and safety precautions, and more!

Yet foremost on our mind right now is our gratitude for YOU. Thanks to donations from patients, volunteers, Board members, local businesses, faith groups, and so many others, we've received (to date) over $35,000 in response to our year-end/holiday fundraising campaign.

We can't thank our donors enough for standing with us in supporting breast cancer patients in need. These generous donations will sustain our Assistance Programs in the months to come.

If you haven't yet donated and are able to give, it's not too late. Donations may be made securely online via PayPal or mailed to our Fremont location:

HERS Breast Cancer Foundation
2500 Mowry Avenue, Suite 130
Fremont, CA 94538

I hope you enjoy the latest HERS updates in this first newsletter of 2021. Stay well and safe!

Tina

Grant News
There are so many things we miss, including in-person events and the wonderfully creative and joyful Tri-Valley SOCKs' Bras for the Cause Walk is no exception.

Despite this event's Covid-related postponement in 2020, the Tri-Valley SOCKs team managed to raise funds and award generous grants to several causes, including HERS! This year we received $7,000.15 in support of our Assistance Programs (if you're wondering why the donation includes 15 cents, it's a nod to their 15th year of supporting breast cancer survivors!).

Since 2013, Tri-Valley SOCKs has awarded $127,000.29 in support of HERS patients. We are forever grateful to them.

Be sure to follow Tri-Valley SOCKs on Facebook for important updates, including the return of their Bras for a Cause Walk in 2022!
"How can we support you?"

As you can imagine, we appreciate having this question posed to us!

So when representatives of the Amazon Fulfillment Center Team at Fremont's Pacific Commons approached with this question, we set to work putting together a Patient Wish List of items to uplift our patients' spirits and provide comfort.

Thanks to Jessie, Paola, and the Pacific Commons Amazon team, we now have an $8,000 credit which we'll use to purchase hats, socks, gloves, wraps, body care items, and more.

We'll post photos of purchased items in the weeks ahead. In the meantime, our hearts are full. Thank you, Amazon!

ps If you'd like to support HERS via your Amazon purchases, register at Amazon Smile and choose HERS Breast Cancer Foundation as your charity of choice! A percentage of every qualifying product you purchase will support our patients in need.
We were "pleasantly" surprised to receive a very generous donation from the Rotary Club of North Pleasanton!

The Club members unexpectedly doubled our grant request, providing a $2,000 check in support of our Assistance Programs. This Club's mission is "Serve. Connect. Learn." and they truly live this every day.

Many thanks to their Club Secretary Michael Cherman for arranging for HERS to present via Zoom and we send our gratitude to all its members for their dedication to under-served breast cancer patients.

Other Program News & Updates
Thank you, Alameda County Department of Public Health and St. Rose Hospital! Our team of 10 received the first of two Moderna vaccination doses in late December. We're looking forward to our second dose later this month!

Vaccinations give us peace of mind for our health and our patients' well-being but of course we continue to practice strict health and safety protocols, including frequent cleaning, hand washing, wearing our PPP, and wearing our masks diligently whether at work or our in our communities.

To find out more about the vaccination efforts in California, including links to county health departments, visit https://covid19.ca.gov/vaccines/.
Although our Program Store locations are open for patients for visits by appointment only, we're still decorating for special occasions.

We love providing beautiful, welcoming spaces. Our patients frequently share how much they enjoy walking into our locations and being greeted by our cheerful staff member and lovely decor, like our current Valentine's Day look.

Pictured here is a detail from a gorgeous artisan quilt entitled, "Hearts and Flowers, Love and Hope" by Chris Murchie. Donated to HERS in 2006, it's one of our favorites.

REMINDER: to keep our patients safer, we continue to provide curbside product pick up in cases where a re-fit appointment isn't necessary. Patients may also receive products by mail.

Our goal is to minimize health risks for our patients and our team. If you're interested in curbside pickup or mail service, please call (510) 790-1911 or contact info@hersbreastcancerfoundation.org.
