At SCC we believe this is a time to stand tall, with all  members of our community.

Concerned with pre-election rhetoric that ridiculed, vilified and targeted many communities, many SCC members are deeply concerned about the results of the Presidential election. But we have been heartened by the resolve of our membership and community to double-down on efforts to promote affordability, diversity and a high quality of life for everyone , refusing to go backward. We are also heartened by the leadership of local and state officials like Somerville Mayor Joe Curtatone and Attorney General Maura Healey, among many.

We will stand together and will fight back at any attempt to deny the rights of any group of people to be part of our community. Read more about SCC's stand in my CEO Forum post. 

In this issue, you can also get an update on our Social Equity Campaign from a key supporter, learn what makes our staff most thankful this holiday season and meet our new First Source Jobs Program Case Manager. Supporter Cynthia Taft: Thankful for Her New Community!
After attending one of the house parties that SCC members put on to share information about the organization and its  Social Equity Campaign , Cindy Taft and her husband, Fred Mueller, were impressed by the thoughtful and clear-eyed strategies of SCC's board and staff. 

"Then we learned about the Social Equity Campaign," states Cindy, "and thought, 'this certainly makes it easy.'"  Read more.


Union United Calls for CBA
More than 100 Somerville community members attended a public hearing earlier this month before the City's Board of Aldermen to discuss the urgent need for a Community Benefits Agreement (CBA) as part of the Union Square redevelopment. 

Union United members requested the public hearing, gathering over 250 signatures from Somerville residents supportive of a CBA. 

They want to ensure that current residents and businesses can enjoy -- and contribute to -- the increased vibrancy of a redeveloped Union Square.  Read more on our website.

First Source Staff News
The SCC First Source Jobs Program  connects local Somerville residents looking for jobs with local employers. 

We welcome our newest First Source Jobs Program Case Manager Paul Parry. 

And we thank Ada Flores who is now completing her year-long service in the LISC AmeriCorps position with the First Source Jobs Program. Read more.


SCC Partners with MassLEAP
First Source Jobs Program  is a new subcontractor on the Massachusetts Learning Employment Asset Building Program ( MassLEAP ) project.

MassLeap is a partnership between the  Somerville Housing Authority ,  One Family  and Somerville Community Corporation. Learn more.


Become Part of the New Financial Literati
The Financial Literacy program at SCC provides participants with common-sense strategies for money management. It helps people become aware of where their finances are going and how to make careful choices. 

The most recent class graduated in October. Read more about the course.
