Pondering Peace for Today …
As we sense the Autumn season fast falling upon us, there seems to be a reluctance to bid summer goodbye. I am frantically filling my calendar with that last barbeque, that last boat ride, that last outdoor gathering before the snow flies. There is an urgency about it! I wonder where the summer went and anticipate the busyness of the days and weeks ahead. This creates anxious thoughts and a restless heart within me. I don’t want to miss out on the unique gifts of a midwestern Autumn … vibrant colors, crisp cool air, hot cider, the crunch of leaves underfoot, apples and pumpkins, stunning drives in the country and a refreshing night’s sleep.
As I ponder this, I wonder how I can replace my anxious, restless thoughts with PEACE. I am reminded that peace is not a feeling, but God’s invitation to rest in His goodness and love. (Philippians 4:6-7) Slowing down, letting go of needless activities, and focusing on the Giver of the seasons helps. Peace begins with a right relationship with God, one another, and creation.
I am trusting that as we seek peace, the changing seasons will bring us delight. May we relax and live each moment of each day savoring the gifts and accepting what is ahead. The Giver of ALL seasons is good!
May we embrace PEACE in the changing seasons,
Marva
