Waterwalk "Pieces" Are Fitting Together!

Dramatic changes are taking place on Point Ruston's dynamic, mile-long esplanade, known as the Waterwalk. Completion of the Waterwalk connects the Ruston Way promenade to Pt. Defiance Park, providing the last missing link necessary to accomplish the long-envision "Dome to Defiance" waterfront walkway. In addition to the 30 foot radius tile-mosaic Octopus at the entrance of the Waterwalk, artwork is being installed at multiple points along the waterfront path, featuring other grand tile mosaic art installations containing native sea creatures and Ocatpus Bench custom hand painted murals. A beautiful trellis provides an unsurpassed viewing opportunity of Mt. Rainier and beyond, while thoughtfully appointed benches, a children's play structure and fresh landscaping accentuate the public artwork and glorious setting along this soon-to-be-opened esplanade. At the heart of the Waterwalk is the Grand Plaza, which is currently under construction. This nearly one-acre public open space will feature a magnificent water feature, and play host to community activities such as art walks, farmer's markets and special neighborhood events. Be on the lookout for the grand opening of the Waterwalk a bit later this winter.

Point Ruston has begun final cleanup of state-owned aquatic landsPt Ruston Barge

Work has begun to complete the final capping of the remaining nine acres of state-owned aquatic lands along the Point Ruston site. Since 2007, Point Ruston has completed nearly $7.5 million in environmental cleanup of the state's aquatic lands, capping more than 10.5 acres of Puget Sound sediments and armoring nearly one mile of shoreline. In the next few months, nearly 200 million pounds of clean material will be delivered by barge to the Point Ruston site and used to complete this final cap.
