GALLERY EXHIBITION

Come to get your canvas stamped at Peninsula Art Academy and start painting in Peninsula surrounded by the Cuyahoga Valley National Park!

DETAILS AND REGISTRATION

This competition is open to artists working in any painting medium: watercolor, gouache, oil, acrylic, and pastel. No three-dimensional, computer-generated, or charcoal work will qualify.

This event is for work done between 8 am and 5 pm, on Oct. 20, 21, and 22. Artwork must be created on-site in the true Plein Air style and may not be worked on off-site or generated from reference photos. Styles may range from realism to abstract and must be in keeping with the impromptu style of Plein Air.

Painting may be done in the Village of Peninsula and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, including the adjoining MetroParks. Please do not enter private property without first getting explicit permission from the owner. We will have additional information about specific locations when you come in to get your canvas stamped.

All work must be completed on canvases that are officially registered with (stamped by) the Peninsula Art Academy in advance. You may wish to get your canvas stamped the evening before painting (Oct. 19, 5-7pm), but you must wait until 8am the following day (Oct. 20) to begin your work.

You can use these buttons below to download our forms and pay online. Print and fill out the forms in advance to bring with you when you get your canvas stamped, to save time so you can go paint! The entry fee is $50 for one piece and $25 for a second piece.

Finished work should be framed and ready to hang, with picture-hanging wire (no sawtooth hangers) attached. Please plan for this in advance. Do not sign your work on the front until after judging has been completed.

Each artist may submit 2 pieces for jurying. All officially submitted works are expected to be exhibited (barring the unlikely event that we run out of wall space, in which case the judge will decide). All paintings exhibited will be judged in the competition and will be eligible for awards.

The cash awards will be $500 for Best in Show, $300 for Second Place, and $100 for Third Place.

On Oct. 23, the pieces are judged by the renowned watercolorist David Rankin, S.A.A., A.F.C., O.W.S., with the winning pieces announced at a reception that day, from 3 to 6 pm. After that, the exhibit will be available for viewing during regular Peninsula Art Academy hours (Thurs. through Sun., 11 am to 5 pm) through Nov. 20.
