Dick B. on Recovery

Aloha!

.

Ken B. (Dick B.’s son) here.

.

I need your immediate financial help right now, please!

.

As you may know, when my dad (pen name: “Dick B.,” JD,CDAAC) entered the rooms of A.A. on April 21, 1986, he was actively attending my Bible fellowship in San Rafael, California. When he began his quest in early 1990 to find out whether A.A. actually “came from the Bible,” he had been bringing many of his sponsees to that Bible fellowship for nearly four years. And when he passed away in September 2015 at age 90 with 29+ years of continuous sobriety in A.A., he had been researching, writing, and speaking about “the rest of the story” about what he called “the Biblical roots of A.A.” for more than 25 years.

.

Since Dick B. passed away in 2015, I have been carrying on his legacy for almost seven years now through making known his:

.

[1.] 45 published titles;

[2.] 1,750+ articles;

[3.] 200 or so recorded audio talks; and

[4.] many videos and video classes.

.

As you may also know, I have been continuing to research the early history of A.A., particularly focusing on the Christian upbringings in Vermont and influences on the cofounders of A.A., William Griffith Wilson (born on November 26, 1895, in East Dorset, Vermont) and Robert Holbrook Smith (born on August 8, 1879, in St. Johnsbury, Vermont).

.

Beginning in 1997, with the publication of Dick B.’s titles Turning Point: A History of Early A.A.'s Spiritual Roots and Successes (776 pages) and The Good Book and the Big Book: A.A.’s Roots in the Bible (Bridge Builders ed.), my dad divided his work between:

.

[1.] researching, writing, and speaking about the early history of A.A.; and

.

[2.] showing how Christian leaders and workers in “the recovery arena” could enhance their effectiveness in caring about, caring for, and/or treating alcoholics and addicts who were still suffering by including in their efforts the highly-effective principles and practices of early A.A.—particularly in Akron and Cleveland—as rediscovered and made known by Dick B.

As you may also know, I am an active contributor on the “AAHistoryLovers” FB group, which I believe is the premier “place to go” for those who would like to find documented information about A.A. History.

.

As you may imagine, my continuing to do A.A. History research and presenting the fruits of that research, as well as organizing and re-presenting my dad’s (and my) 25+ years of research from early 1990 to September 2015, is more than “a full time job.”

.

I have often been running a deficit of $1,000 - $1,500/month for a while now in carrying out the work outlined above, under the banner of my company “Good Book Publishing Company”—which my dad founded in the 1990-1991 timeframe and of which I have been the owner since October 2015.

.

If you have found my dad’s 25+ years of work, and my additional seven years (as of next month) of work, in sharing “the rest of the story” with folks around the world about “Why Early A.A. Succeeded”—the title of one of my dad’s books—and of how to use early A.A.'s highly successful principles and practices in helping alcoholics and addicts who still suffer today, would you please become (or continue to be) a benefactor of this work?
