β€Š
β€Š

LETTUCE

Loose leaf lettuce varieties mature in just 40-45 days but can be enjoyed in as little as 3 weeks. It actually prefers growing in cooler temperatures so fall is perfect.

CARROTS

Carrots are so hearty that you can plant them in the fall, leave them in the ground all winter long, and then harvest them next spring.

ROOT VEGGIES:

ο»ΏBEETS / RADISHES / TURNIPS

These root veggies grow so quickly that you can plant them now and harvest them by the fall.

Beets are ready in 6-8 weeks and they can tolerate a little frost and near-freezing temperatures.

Radishes take only 3-5 weeks and they like cooler temperatures but prefer full sun.

Now that summer is coming to a close, it is time to start planting for fall/winter harvest, or even next spring!

These 5 veggies are hearty, even in the cooler weather.

BROCCOLI

Certain varieties of broccoli can mature in 55 days and can handle frost. Look for winter varieties that can be planted in mid to late summer.

GARLIC

Like carrots, garlic is best planted in the fall with a layering of hay overtop to protect it during the winter months. Then, next spring, you will have beautiful heads of garlic.

Turnips can be harvested in just 5 weeks as well. For sweeter turnips, harvest them in the fall after 1-2 light freezes (but before a hard frost).
