June 24: Status of Neighborhood Storm Debris Collection

June 24 stats

Crews are almost 50% through the first sweep. After a break on Sunday, the contractor is continuing to work 7 days a week. Some areas with more debris are taking longer. We are now just west of Independence Parkway. Track where crews are on our debris collection map at Plano.gov/StormRecovery. It’s easier to view the map on a desktop computer.

Important reminders

  • If your debris pile is missed, leave it at the collection point or front curb for the second sweep.
  • Give workers plenty of space to do their job.
  • Don’t park in front of debris piles.
  • Remind kids to watch from a safe distance.
  • Animals might be living in debris piles, so be careful.

Can you help a neighbor?

City Council members sit in a horseshoe-shaped fashion at Davis Library

The following items were approved as part of the Consent Agenda during the Monday, June 24, 2024 City Council meeting:

Sanitary Sewer Improvements on the Way

Sewer improvements are scheduled for Legacy Drive, Prestonwood Country Club and Timbercreek Drive. Gabion walls will be added along Indian Creek and Pittman Creek. A new 12-inch sanitary sewer siphon will allow proper maintenance and increase efficiency. Council approved the use of $1,895,000 from the 2023-24 Sewer Community Investment Program (CIP) for the work.

Traffic Signal Local Controllers to be Replaced

New hardware and software will replace 12- to 20-year-old traffic signal controllers at every signal location in Plano. The new technology will support the future needs of connected vehicles and traffic-responsive signals. Council approved spending $1,419,806 from the 2023-24 Street Improvements CIP for this project.

2025 Bond Referendum Citizen Advisory Committee Forms

A Citizen Advisory Committee will be established to review and recommend capital projects to include in the 2025 Bond Referendum. The Bond Election is scheduled for Saturday, May 3, 2025. To be considered for the Committee, submit a Boards and Commission application.

Comfort Your Pet During July Fourth

Did you know more pets are lost during the July Fourth holiday than any other holiday? Between the frightening booms, flashing lights and unfamiliar guests, it can be a scary time for your furry friends. Take these steps to keep your pet safe:

  • Exercise your pet before the festivities.

  • Prepare a safe space for your pet with a bed and toys where they won’t hear the loud fireworks.

  • Feed your pet a filling meal 1-2 hours before the celebration.

  • Cuddle your companion and keep calm so they can follow your lead and relax.

  • Distract your pet with a television or radio to help drown out the loud noises.

  • Register your pet to help get that pet home sooner if they are ever lost. If a pet slips out the gate, its tag is the first and easiest way to get it home quickly.

If you have lost or found a pet, visit the Lost & Found Pets page for information. Remember, it is against the law to have fireworks within the city limits of Plano.
