Plan of Safe Care Expert Video Series: Partnering with Healthcare Providers for Families Affected by Prenatal Substance Exposure

The National Center on Substance Abuse and Child Welfare (NCSACW), with support from the Vermont Oxford Network (VON) developed a four-part series on implementing Plans of Safe Care and Family Care Plans that promote safety and well-being for pregnant people, infants, and their families affected by prenatal substance exposure. The four modules expand on the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act as it relates to infants affected by prenatal substance exposure, determining who needs a Plan of Safe Care and how notifications differ from child protection services reports, collaborating with community partners to implement Plans of Safe Care, and developing and using the Plan of Safe Care as a care coordination process from pregnancy to birth and infancy. Each module contains subject matter content, on the ground examples, and questions health care providers can ask collaborative teams engaged in this work.

A Systematic Review of Clinical Practice Guidelines for Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome

The prevalence of neonatal abstinence syndrome is increasing, but the number and quality of clinical practice guidelines available are unknown. This systematic review aimed to identify, appraise and evaluate clinical practice guidelines for neonatal abstinence syndrome.

The Train Wrecked in Slow Motion - I gave birth at 45. It was a miracle that almost cost me everything.

"The air grew thinner, like before a storm. The OB resident escalated to her senior, who paged her attending and the anesthesiologist on call. When the anesthesiologist arrived, she looked at me and said, “Your pressure is low, yet you look so well. It must be a side effect of the epidural. Still, can you sign this consent for a transfusion?”"

Obstetric Sepsis
Care of the Late Preterm

As a state we have an opportunity to participate in a national survey about hospital practices and protocols related to birthing person and newborn toxicology testing.

Here's the details -

The survey is web-based and should be completed by individuals familiar with their hospital’s toxicology testing practices, including OB/GYN and pediatric physicians or fellows, certified nurse midwives (CNM), perinatal social workers, as well as L&D nursing managers. Importantly, only one individual at each hospital should complete the survey. The survey takes approximately 20 minutes to complete and participants will be entered into a raffle to win AirPods.

You can access the survey at the following link:  https://redcap.link/toxpracticesurvey

Your participation in this survey will not only provide PQCNC with valuable statewide data, but it will also advance research and advocacy related to toxicology testing practices during pregnancy, more broadly, and finally, data from other states will be shared with PQCNC which we can in turn share with you.

Note: the introduction to the survey says that "your name and email address have been furnished to us by your PQC" - this is not the case as we are only sharing the survey link with y'all - we NEVER share names and email addresses
