The Monthly Morsel

Recap of May 2024

Announcements and Updates:

Share Your Volunteer Story!

Our Development staff is looking for volunteers willing to share their volunteer story and how they came to love PFB as part of a fundraising effort to help us keep up with the increased food insecurity we've seen in recent months. If you'd be willing to share your volunteer story with our Development team to help spread the word about PFB, please click here to email Grace for more info. It would entail a brief interview with our Philanthropy Manager in whatever medium you're most comfortable! No photos or videos required :)

Raley's Food for Families

Did you know that we partner with the Raley's Food for Families program? Every dollar donated at the register at a Raley's or Bel Air store within our three-county service area helps support Placer Food Bank! We use the donated funds to purchase wholesale food items like rice, beans, pasta, canned fruits and veggies, and more through the Raley's distribution network at a very generous discount. Help us spread the word about this amazing program! You can also thank the folks at your local store for supporting this program!

Volunteer Spotlight:

Lovingly compiled by Jeremy + Heidi

Paige and Kathy C.

How did you hear about Placer Food Bank? We’ve always wanted to volunteer together, and Placer Food Bank was first on our list. The staff and volunteers here are wonderful and we love the mission of the food bank.

Favorite volunteer opportunity at Placer Food Bank? Paige likes sorting, produce party and meal kit packing, anywhere where there are friends to talk to :) Kathy favorite is Sorting Superstars and running across that occasional/unusual food item that she's never seen in the grocery store before ;). They both look forward to venturing out and trying new volunteer opportunities with the food bank this summer.

Favorite food? Paige is a big pizza and hot dog fan.  Kathy loves Thai food, and chocolate, especially See’s candy.

Favorite books? Shows? Movies? Paige’s favorite book is Little Women. She is also a big Sonic, Mario and Disney fan. Paige also loves playing with her two Boston Terriers, Stella and Scarlet. Kathy loves listening to music and has recently been going down a 80’s & 90’s cover band rabbit holes.

Hobbies? Hidden Talents? Paige participates in Special Olympics and competes in a variety of sports and most recently has taken up Bocce Ball. Paige loves playing the piano and ukulele. She loves to make videos for her YouTube channel. She also enjoys drawing, singing and dancing and is never shy when it comes to karaoke. Kathy enjoys hanging out with family and friends, hiking, kayaking, working in the yard and enjoying nature.

If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be? Paige and Kathy both pick a Dolphin because they always seem to be having fun and we love the ocean.

Quick Quack Car Wash

On May 30th employees of the Quick Quack Car Wash Service Center (the corporate office located in Roseville that includes HR, Accounting, Development, etc.) returned to PFB for the third time to volunteer at the warehouse. This time they were put to work packing meal kits with non-perishable food items bound for seniors in our Senior Program (approximately 420 seniors participate currently) and for each household that passes through one of our mobile food distributions, also known as Pantry To Go (approximately 3,500 households participated in May). Quick Quack’s mission is to change lives for the better and the staff love opportunities to serve our community which is exactly what they did with us last month. Thanks Quick Quack!
