May 2022

May in Review

May has been a whirlwind here at Placer Food Bank! Our distribution numbers continue to grow, but thanks to you and all of the hard work, love, and time you give us, we are keeping up with the necessary prep work and feeding more people than ever.

Monthly Update Email

We are resurrecting the monthly update email and will be sending it out at the end of the month (or beginning of the next month) with a recap of the prior month's stats, big news, and any upcoming things to look out for. We love looking at the stats and marveling at how impressive all of you are, and this email is an attempt to do a better job of sharing that info with you! Thanks for being your amazing selves!

Expansion Update!

We also got the keys to our new space next door and have begun demolition and construction to turn the softball complex into additional warehouse and volunteer space. We won't be using it for at least another few months, but exciting things are ahead once the construction is complete!

Produce Scales

Many of you have experienced our new produce scales - these are part of our efforts to order produce more accurately, minimize waste, and ensure we don't run out at any of our distributions. We are all experiencing a bit of a learning curve with them, but ultimately they will help us better predict how much produce we need for each distribution. Thanks for being patient as we work them into the produce shifts!

Feedback Form

We are working on a volunteer survey that will be sent out sometime in the next few months, but in the meantime we are including an anonymous feedback form in this email. If you have comments, concerns, suggestions, ideas, questions, or anything else you'd like to share anonymously with our staff, please use the form. We want to hear from you, and all information will help us improve the program and make the volunteer experience better for everyone. We always welcome your feedback, and you are still welcome to share it in person or via email as well!

With gratitude and best wishes,

Grace and Jeremy

Fun Facts

Favorite Flower: Gerber Daisy

Favorite Foods: Mexican and Thai

Favorite TV Show: NCIS

Kerin has no ACL in her left knee and goes by “KC” or “Danger Girl.” You should ask her about it.

We are so grateful to have Kerin volunteer with us here at PFB. She is a friendly, funny, and engaging person who always wears a smile. She is one of our fearless distribution lead volunteers, and is better at training new folks than we are at this point. Thank you, Kerin!

Special Shout-Out!

Tony (left photo) and Toni (right photo) are chasing Kerin up the hours leaderboard, both with over 95 hours this year! They are long-time, expert PFB volunteers and we are so grateful for reliable and positive presence they bring to their volunteer shifts. From speedy sorters to friendly smiles along the distribution line, "the Tonies," as Jeremy and I think of them, are a dynamic duo that we could not do without! Thank you both, we love you!

New Volunteer Opportunity! - Food Delivery

01 Grocery Bag.jpg

We need monthly help delivering food to the Rocklin Estates Mobile Home Park!

This will occur on the third Thursday of each month and ideally we want folks who are regularly available to attend every month. Staff will attend with you and show you the ropes for the first month or two, and then it will be primarily volunteer-run once the volunteer team feels ready to go on their own.

June Birthdays!

Happy birthday to all of our volunteers born this coming month!
