June in Review

Expansion Update!

We are working with architects and contractors to plan and design the new space. We are still in the preliminary stages of this project, but we are so excited about the opportunity that this space provides. We will be able to help so many more folks with the additional space!

Expanded Distribution at Rocklin Estates

This month, several volunteers helped us spread the word about our monthly grocery delivery at the Rocklin Estates mobile home park. We left a flyer for each resident about the program, hoping to get more people signed up who need additional groceries. We have had an awesome response thus far, with 14 households joining the program. This brings our total to 37 households, and we hope the list will keep growing. I (Grace) dropped the ball on getting a team photo, but want to say a special thank you to Mark and Anne, Shelby, Peter, Victoria, and Lonna who braved a very hot day to deliver the flyers to all 125+ units!

Feedback Form

We are (still) working on a volunteer survey that will be sent out in next month's update email, but in the meantime we are including an anonymous feedback form in this one. If you have comments, concerns, suggestions, ideas, questions, or anything else you'd like to share anonymously with our staff, please use the form. We want to hear from you, and all information will help us improve the program and make the volunteer experience better for everyone. We always welcome your feedback, and you are always welcome to share it in person or via email as well!

With gratitude and best wishes,

Grace and Jeremy

Volunteer Spotlights

Ann C.

Ann was born in Washington and grew up in Idaho. She has been volunteering since the 70’s.

Nickname: Nanny

Favorite foods: Beef short ribs, enchiladas and lasagna.

Hobbies: Gardening, cooking, golfing, traveling, wine tasting and hanging out with friends.

Favorite travel destinations: She's been to England, Scotland, France, and Malaysia, but her favorite is Singapore (and its food!).

Surprising Fact: Ann shared with us that when she was a child, she and her family were interned at a Japanese internment camp during WWII.

She is a leader of our Monday sorting crew, and a long-time pillar of our volunteer program. She is full of creative ideas to improve and grow our programs, and we are always grateful for her insight.

She also makes amazing banana nut bread (if you’re lucky enough to try it).

Peggy H.

Peggy has been volunteering with PFB since 2014.

Favorite Foods: Fruits and pastas.

Favorite Movie: Pretty Woman

Hobbies: Exercising, jigsaw puzzles, and balancing her check book.

Favorite Books: Merle’s Door and Racing in the Rain.

Surprising Fact: She once ran a marathon without training.

Peggy is another leader of our diehard Monday Crew. She is a hard worker and helps keep the Monday Crew on track and working at top speed. She’s a blast to work with and we are so grateful that she is a part of the PFB family!

Anna & Vu

They may claim to be two of the most boring volunteers, but we beg to disagree. Anna is a software engineer and Vu is an aerospace engineer. See? Not boring in the least.

They love cuisines from all over the world and love to try new things.

Favorite Movies:

Anna - Princess Bride

Vu - My Cousin Vinny.

Anna loves Harry Potter, while Vu thinks it’s stupid. We're glad that one thing they agree on is their commitment to volunteering at PFB!

You may know them as our produce-packing speedsters, they are true wizards with the green mesh bags. Whether it be produce parties or salvage, they roll with the punches and excel at any task we throw at them. Vu recently told us that his speedy salvage box skills may stem from his past experience working a women's shoe warehouse, which definitely makes sense!

They are a dynamic duo of efficiency and positivity, and we are happy to keep the Reese's PB Cups stocked for them in exchange for their hard work!

July Birthdays!

Happy birthday to all of our volunteers born this coming month!

Be sure to wish these folks a happy birthday if you see them this month:
