Share Your Volunteer Story!
Our Development staff is looking for volunteers willing to share their volunteer story and how they came to love PFB as part of a fundraising effort to help us keep up with the increased food insecurity we've seen in recent months. If you'd be willing to share your volunteer story with our Development team to help spread the word about PFB, please click here to email Grace for more info. It would entail a brief interview with our Philanthropy Manager in whatever medium you're most comfortable! No photos or videos required :)

Raley's Food for Families
Did you know that we partner with the Raley's Food for Families program? Every dollar donated at the register at a Raley's or Bel Air store within our three-county service area helps support Placer Food Bank! We use the donated funds to purchase wholesale food items like rice, beans, pasta, canned fruits and veggies, and more through the Raley's distribution network at a very generous discount. Help us spread the word about this amazing program! You can also thank the folks at your local store for supporting this program!

Craig and Kimberly M.
Craig and I were married very young, 19 and 21 years old, and had two daughters in two years. Today, one daughter has her PHD and works at Stanford and the other daughter is married with 3 girls and is a teacher here in Roseville. Craig worked for the Federal Government for 38 years, including a year and a half in Honolulu, HI. I worked as an Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse for 31 years. We were blessed to retire young.
Craig retired on a Friday and by Monday we were awarded custody of my 14-year-old niece. Simultaneously our daughter blessed us twin granddaughters followed by another granddaughter 3 years later. As they have all gotten older, we were once again looking for something to keep us busy and we moved my mom into our house. Today we have both my disabled sister and my mom living with us.
After Covid, we were looking for a way to give back to our community and found Placer Food Bank. As much as I enjoy bagging carrots, my favorite volunteer activity at PFB is the Friday Morning Food Distribution Parties. We’ve met so many fun people and receive so much joy from the folks coming through the obstacle course that is the process of food distribution.
Our favorite activity in this season of our lives is attending the many soccer and Lacrosse games that our three granddaughters play every weekend, playing with our dog, Sophie and our cat Cowboy, and our Grand dog, Roger and Grand cat Evelyn. Our favorite book is the Bible. Craig volunteers at our Church.
We love to travel. Last year we went to Israel and Jordan. I’m so glad we were able to go before the war broke out there. This year we are going to Brussels and The Netherlands. We have another couple that we love to travel with every year. We met them on a trip to Paris in 2008.
If I were to live as an animal, it would be a bird. I want to be able to fly. We parasailed in the Alps when we were in Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland and that is likely as close to flying I will ever encounter. When I asked Craig, he quickly replied “Eagle”, we are very similar!
Things that we love to do but don’t make time for these days include snowshoeing, golf, wine tasting, beer brewing, hiking, biking and lots more traveling.

UNFI
UNFI is a national food distribution company with a local center in Rocklin. Their team has volunteered with PFB a few times in the past couple of years, and joined us this year on February 20th to help pack Starbuck’s items and to make meal kits which are boxes of non-perishable food items that are delivered to senior housing communities and to people who come to our mobile food distributions. Thank you UNFI!!!

Sierra College Outreach
At the beginning of each semester, Sierra College hosts a Welcome Back event for its students in order to expose them to a wide variety of campus clubs, department offerings, and community organizations. PFB has happily attended these events to let students know about volunteer opportunities as well as food resources, such as the mobile food distributions and the food given out by PFB’s partner agencies. Unfortunately, many students experience food insecurity, but fortunately, Sierra College has a Basic Needs Center which is one of PFB’s partners! A shout out to Cheryl R. and Brittani W. for representing PFB so well at this event!

Corporate + Service Group Engagement
This year we are so excited to introduce an educational activity at the beginning of shifts for our returning volunteer service and corporate groups. The activity was developed by one of our volunteers, Dr. Helen Anderson-Clark, in conjunction with staff as a way to offer more information and insight into food insecurity and how it impacts our neighbors and community. It offers more context for the subsequent food packing or sorting tasks that volunteers participate in for the remaining duration of their shifts. Helen worked for nearly a decade in Philadelphia public schools as an English teacher, curriculum developer, and professional learning facilitator. She obtained her doctorate in Education from the University of Pennsylvania where her work centered on professional learning and literacy. Since 2022 she has volunteered and collaborated with PFB to create educational resources, engagement trainings, and help out in the warehouse. Thank you, Helen, for sharing your skills and your passions with PFB!!

Please know that the last thing we want is to make volunteers to feel pressured to donate money, because you are already so generous with your time. We so appreciate your gift of time and spirit, so please don't ever worry that it's not enough on its own.
