The Monthly Morsel
February 2023
| |
Thank you so much to the diehard volunteers who joined us to distribute in the snow in Foresthill this month! Despite only being open for about an hour before the weather sent us packing, we managed to serve 140 households made up of 414 people!
New Year, New Volunteer Opportunities!

Bingo Volunteers
Did you know that Placer Food Bank runs a charity bingo game two nights a week? The devoted crew of bingo staff and volunteers are looking for a bit more help to keep things running smoothly and would love a few people who can commit to volunteering at least twice a month to join their ranks.

Delivery Drivers for Small Drop-Offs
Raley's Food for Families gave us two small cargo vans recently that we are going to start using for some of our smaller food drop-offs. If you have a current driver's license, a clean driving record, and a desire to get out of the warehouse on occasion, this could be a good fit for you. Click here to learn more and sign up!

Volunteer Spotlight:
WPUSD Job Training Program Students
Lovingly compiled by Jeremy
| |
Current Students and Teachers:
(L-R: Carlo, Shannon, Ashley, Robin, Joey)
|
Carlo, Ashley and Joey are current participants in the Western Placer Unified School District's post-high-school job training program for students with special needs. They are all recent high school graduates seeking work experience, and the program offers them the chance to explore many different work environments. They also get more familiar with the employee/supervisor and co-worker dynamics and experience them in a real work setting.
WPUSD and PFB have partnered to offer this opportunity for over 4 years!
| |
|
Carlo is a charming smooth talker. He gets along with everyone and is great at balancing hilarious conversation with getting tasks done efficiently.
He loves singing and rapping as well as playing basketball and golf. He loves any type of food and loves to cook. He loves helping people and volunteering and his favorite shoes are Jordans.
| |
|
Ashley is all smiles. There will never be a time when you see Ashley and she isn’t smiling. It’s contagious and sometimes, all you need to do is smile to get through the day.
Ashley enjoys a good joke and video games. Her Favorite food is spaghetti with meatballs. And is a basketball fanatic who loves the Golden State Warriors and also coaches a basketball team!
| |
|
Joey is fascinated with body building and is constantly studying and striving to work on his “gains”.
His favorite hobbies are exercising and video games. Joey is a yoga master and grilled cheese sandwiches and olive oil are some of his favorite foods.
| |
|
Trey, Isaiah, and Noah have also been recent participants, but weren't here on photo day.
- Trey loves playing the drums, video games and reading. His favorite food is ravioli. He loves to play with his dogs and can whistle and his favorite band is Queen.
- Isaiah’s favorite food is Chinese food. He coaches the 12 Bridges Rhinos basketball team and has a dog named Luka.
- Noah likes to collect hot wheels and has thousands of them. His favorite foods are spaghetti, ham and mashed potatoes and salami. He loves to travel and has been to Hawaii, San Francisco and Disney World and he is thankful for all of his amazing friends!
| |
|
We can't forget their fearless leaders! Shannon and Robin are two of the teachers in the program and they accompany the students to their shifts at the warehouse.
- Robin is on the quiet side, but he has some amazing stories once you get him chatting! He loves to ride his bicycle a lot. He once rode it from Santa Cruz to New York! Not in one go but still extremely impressive. Favorite food is Mexican food and favorite team are the San Francisco 49er’s and Sacramento Kings.
- Shannon is an amazing leader. She is someone anyone can look up to and can confide in. Great person to be around and can always keep everyone on task. She is a nana of 2 who likes sushi and can ride a unicycle and also has amazing taste in music.
We encourage you to sign up for a shift with this crew sometime, it will definitely be one of the most fun two hours of your week!
