Volunteers Linda, Toni, Roanne, and Gary at the Foresthill distribution on January 26th. We moved to a new site in Foresthill to kick off the year and it was an amazing success!
Thanks to our staff, volunteers, and the Foresthill Fire Department for helping us pull it off!

New Year, New Volunteer Opportunities! | |

Story Gathering Volunteers
We need help gathering stories from our neighbors at our food distributions! If you like meeting new folks, talking with people about their lived experiences, and listening with empathy, this is the opportunity for you! Click here to let us know you're interested and we'll reach out with more info and training dates.
Bingo Volunteers
Did you know that Placer Food Bank runs a charity bingo game two nights a week? The devoted crew of bingo staff and volunteers are looking for a bit more help to keep things running smoothly and would love a few people who can commit to volunteering at least twice a month to join their ranks. We will send out another email soon with more info about how to get signed up for training and specific info about what the shifts will entail, so keep an eye out for that email if you're interested!

This was a record-breaking year on almost every front at Placer Food Bank. We're still going through all the data that we gathered last year, but we've included a few highlights below. The first chart shows the number of individuals served at each Pantry To Go site in 2022.
The second chart shows the number of households* served at each Pantry To Go site in 2022.
| |
*PFB defines a "household" as the number of people in the home who purchase and prepare food together.
For example, 3 housemates who each do their own individual shopping and cook separately would be 3 different households, but if they pooled their money and took turns shopping for and cooking shared meals throughout the week, they would be 1 household.

Meet Tiffany and Frank Huck. There is never an interaction where they won’t have a smile on their face. They met the first day of college at the University of San Diego, where they both studied Business Administration. They have been married 31 years and they have 2 sons, 28 and 25. Frank has been in the home loan lending business for 30+ years and Tiffany is a retired stay at home mom.
They both like to read, garden and travel. Tiffany loves to bake and Frank is a willing tester. They are also avid sports fans, mostly baseball and football. They make an annual trip to Arizona for baseball Spring Training to see our favorite teams, the San Francisco Giants and LA Angels. And they manage to stay friendly through the football season as I Tiffany is a 49er fan and Frank is a diehard Cowboys fan.
Tiffany found Placer Food Bank during COVID while all her other volunteer organizations were closed. Tiffany finds it unbelievable how much food insecurity there is in our area. Once Tiffany started she really enjoyed the people and the volunteer shifts. Frank had volunteered with his work years ago so he was excited to join her on the distribution days.
P.S. Staff member Jeremy and Frank are mortal enemies. If they are spotted together at any distributions, keep an eye on them - things may get out of hand.

Eiman is a one of kind volunteer. His favorite activity here at the food bank is the distributions because it’s the one time he gets to truly see the impact that the food bank has on the community and it motivates him to keep volunteering. Eiman also enjoys produce parties, except for when you have to reach to the bottom of the bins.
Eiman is a sports fanatic, especially when it comes to basketball or soccer. He pretty much knows anything that’s going on with any major sport at any given time. Other than sports, He really enjoys being in nature and can write with both hands. And even though he is currently in Fresno, he still plans on being involved with PFB whenever he’s back in town.
Overall, Eiman is a hardworking, friendly, task oriented volunteer that we are super happy to work with. We learned quickly not to ask what type of music to play around him because, the response of “play your best stuff” is more pressure than anyone can handle. We cannot say enough good things about Eiman and everyone can enjoy a shift with him at some point or another.

John and Kriste have been volunteering at PFB for about 3 years. While they love a good Produce Party, their favorite way to help is at the mobile distributions where they can be outside and directly connect with those in need. They are the ones wearing shorts nearly year round. (They call pants "leg prisons.") Working the nonperishable station highlights their individual skills – John, who exudes kindness and compassion, and Kriste, who is freakishly strong and a great DJ.
Both John and Kriste are former commercial airline pilots. After September 11th when the economy and airline industry took a down turn, they met while working for the same private jet charter company. John later retired from flying for a private family. He has A LOT of stories, but don’t ask for any names, you won’t get any out of him.
When they are not volunteering or playing with the dogs at the animal shelter, they like to travel, kayak, hike, golf and if forced indoors, read, host game nights with friends or binge watch something fun. They also just started playing pickleball! John calls himself a “pizza-tarian” and Kriste doesn’t think life is worth living without cheese.
They are both so positive and friendly, it's almost impossible to leave a shift in a bad mood after working with them. We love them and are so grateful for the warmth and good humor they bring to our distributions.
I can tell you this - one celebrity said of John, “You’re so nice you should be Canadian!” John smiled and replied, “I am!”
