Pittsfield Township

Senior Center Newsletter

March 2024

We're getting closer to Spring and things are a buzz here at the Pittsfield Senior Center! First things first! On February 26th, you'll see another new face in the center. Bridget is joining as a Recreation Specialist. She'll be assisting with both youth and adult programming as well as planning day trips and working in the front office. Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Bridget!

Registration for the Spring/Summer session will be opening March 1st. You can register online or in person. If you are registered for one of our free programs that runs year-round (think games, line dancing, etc.), we've added you to the roster for Spring/Summer. If you are no longer interested in continuing these classes, please go to your registrations, select the class and click leave OR email us to be removed from the roster to allow someone else to take your spot.

Here's a test...are you still reading? If so, you can be entered to win a Bob Evans gift card for Easter dinner provided by Visiting Angels. Just stop in the center and fill out a raffle entry ticket. Only current 2024 Pittsfield Senior Center members are eligible to win. The winner will be contacted the week of March 18th. Deadline to enter is March 15th.

Our April newsletter will be filled with new classes and programs for the summer. Can't wait? Check out recreation.pittsfield-mi.gov for all the details. All classes do require registration and any FREE programs will require current membership to the Pittsfield Senior Center.

Membership is ANNUAL (Jan-Dec) and costs $5 for Pittsfield Residents and $10 for Non-Residents. Please note: Credit card purchases, both in-person and online, now have a convenience fee. We also accept cash and checks without additional fees.

Review of our closure and cancellation policies:

Pittsfield Township generally follows Washtenaw Co. closures for weather events. We don't follow a particular school district as we have residents in multiple school districts. When we are notified from the Supervisor's office, we will send an email to the rosters for the affected classes as soon as possible. You can also call our weather hotline at 734-822-3160. We also follow this process when an instructor needs to cancel a class.

Also, this is an election year so we will have several additional days where we are not able host classes. You can click on My Activities to see all your Upcoming Events.

In addition, we will update our calendar to reflect the closure/cancellation. Our calendar can be found at recreation.pittsfield-mi.gov then click CALENDAR.

We will not have classes after 11am on Feb 26 and all-day Feb 27 because we are a Polling location.

Medicare enrollment periods that allow for some changes in coverage continue from January 1 through March 31.

There are two overlapping enrollment periods. The first is the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period. If you have an Advantage Plan and wish to change to another Advantage Plan or to switch back to Original Medicare (plus D probably plus Medigap), you can do it in this period. The second is the General Enrollment Period. If you failed to enroll in Part A or B during other enrollment periods, you can do so (often with a penalty). For many others, Medicare initial enrollment and special enrollment periods are ongoing.

The Michigan Medicare Assistance Program offers assistance as a free public service throughout the year. If you would like assistance, Stacie Jackson, Recreation Specialist, 734-822-2117, will put you in touch with a certified MMAP counselor.
