Medicare enrollment periods that allow for some changes in coverage continue from January 1 through March 31.
There are two overlapping enrollment periods. The first is the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period. If you have an Advantage Plan and wish to change to another Advantage Plan or to switch back to Original Medicare (plus D probably plus Medigap), you can do it in this period. The second is the General Enrollment Period. If you failed to enroll in Part A or B during other enrollment periods, you can do so (often with a penalty). For many others, Medicare initial enrollment and special enrollment periods are ongoing.
The Michigan Medicare Assistance Program offers assistance as a free public service throughout the year. If you would like assistance, Stacie Jackson, Recreation Specialist, 734-822-2117, will put you in touch with a certified MMAP counselor.
