Senior Center News


The PSI Potlucks are scheduled at 11am on 7/24, 8/28, 9/6, 9/18 and 10/16. Dates have been corrected since July newsletter. September 6 is also the Annual PSI Membership Picnic. More information can be found in the PSI section of the newsletter. Mark your calendars!



Registration for Fall programs opens August 1st. Class details can be found using the links or on recreation.pittsfield-mi.gov. For those in our ongoing free programs, we have added you to the roster. Please contact us if you are no longer participating in one of our free programs so we can open spots up for others.


We will not have programs on August 5th with a start time of noon or later and all-day August 6th for voting. We will be closed on Labor Day, September 2nd. Our calendar can be found at recreation.pittsfield-mi.gov then click CALENDAR.


Our annual Membership costs $5 for Pittsfield Residents and $10 for Non-Residents. Please note: Credit card purchases, both in-person and online, now have a convenience fee. We also accept cash and checks without additional fees.

Focus: HOPE

Focus: HOPE now offering FREE monthly food distribution on the second Thursday of every month,11-11:30am, in the Senior Center parking lot. This program is for seniors 60+. For additional information, Focus: HOPE can be reached at 313-494-4600.

The State of Michigan teamed up with GetSetUp to provide hundreds of live online classes to keep you mentally, physically, and socially active. Interested in volunteering?

We have once again partnered with AmeriCorps Retired & Senior Volunteer Program - RSVP. Volunteers can get free liability insurance and mileage reimbursement to and from the center. Volunteers are required to submit their own hours to RSVP. Volunteering includes teaching classes, setting up for groups and programs. See Stacie for more details!

Introduction to Practicing Mindfulness

Tuesday, July 23, 2:30-3:30pm

The purpose of the workshop is to introduce a number of mindfulness practices which includes cultivating self-awareness, reducing our reaction to stress and meditation techniques. The workshop will touch on the physical and psychological benefits on mindfulness.

National Vanilla Ice Cream Day Celebration!

Join us for National Vanilla Ice Cream Day sponsored by LifeChoice Solutions! We'll do the scooping; you do the fun part! We're playing by the rules...only vanilla ice cream will be served on vanilla ice cream day. If the weather’s nice, we’ll go outside to socialize at the pavilion.

International Mahjong Day Celebration!

Join us for a very special day of American Mahjong. Take a break from the heat of summer for an afternoon of Mahjong. Bring a dish to pass for 8+. Potluck lunch at 11:30am followed by game play at noon.

Senior Strolls

Come for a walk on the wild side. Socialize and Exercise with loops from .5 - 2+ miles, pick your level of intensity. Wear your walking shoes, dress for the weather, it’s a good idea to bring water, a walking stick or trekking pole, some bug spray, and a hat.  Come as often as you can.

In this Spanish class we will focus on learning vocabulary and simple daily phrases in the present tense.  Emphasis on conversational Spanish. All students are responsible for bringing their own supplies and text.  

Tai Chi - Beginner Yang Style - $75NR/$70R

This class is for people who are new to Tai Chi, people who have previous experience and need a refresher course, and people interested in an introduction to Yang Family Style. Students will do Tai Chi movement warm up exercises and work on "First Loop" or about the first twenty movements of the Yang Family Style 108 Long Form. Multiple skill levels are taught.  

Cardio Drumming - $64NR/$60R

Drum off the pounds, aggression, and stress! Cardio Drumming is a full body cardio workout, combining light resistance with constant simulated drumming. Taught by a certified instructor, with tons of fun, easy-to-follow choreographed routines. $20 for first session, $10 for each additional session. Class requires commitment and communication with lead regarding attendance for flower orders. All new participants must sign up by Tuesday for the Thursday session.

Rescue Tails w/ Humane Society of Huron Valley - FREE

Every person has a story to tell. So do animals, and at the Humane Society of Huron Valley, we’re fortunate to be part of the life story of many amazing critters who have been through our shelter doors. Join us for a 20-minute presentation featuring stories of animals who have been rescued, loved, and adopted by shelter staff members. After, participants will enjoy a craft activity (suitable for a variety of ability levels) to help the adoptable animals at HSHV who are still waiting for their forever homes. Based on availability, we may also visit with a certified therapy dog.

New Voting Rights presented by LWV - FREE

Join our discussion about New Voting Rights presented by the League of Women Voters of Washtenaw County.

60% of voters approved Prop 2 in November 2022. That proposal amended the state constitution to expand voting rights. This presentation describes both new rights and improvements to existing processes. Topics include certification of election results, early voting, improvements to absentee voting, voter ID, election audits, and public disclosure of charitable contributions.

Beginning in the Fall term, the Line Dancing Beginner and Improver classes will be taught by Bunny on Tuesdays and Susanna on Thursdays. Each instructor has their own play lists and dances. We have separated the classes to accommodate the growing interest by allowing for more participants to register. If you sign up for Line Dancing, please let the instructor know if you will be on an extended absence. Blake's Sunflower Festival

Join us for this new day trip as we head to Blake’s Orchard for the Sunflower Festival! This festival provides so much more than just flowers. The festival boasts 150+ artisan vendors, free classes and workshops (such as yoga, natural wellness, aromatherapy, farming, gardening, psychic readings etc.), live music, access to the sunflower fields and more! A $10 lunch voucher is also included in the trip price.

Not much can be told about where we’re going, but a big part of the fun is NOT knowing! Sit back and relax on our luxury charter bus and enjoy the scenery around you. A Christmas Carol at Meadowbrook

Step into the enchanting world of Charles Dickens' beloved holiday tale with our special theater performance of "A Christmas Carol." Join us for an unforgettable evening filled with heartwarming moments, festive spirit, and timeless storytelling.


This trip will also make a stop at Great Lakes Crossing before the show so that you can knock out some Christmas shopping for your loved ones. Ticket includes transportation and a ticket to the show. Lunch is not included but there are multiple restaurants at Great Lakes Crossing to choose from.

This trip will also stop for lunch at Alfocinnos, a popular Italian restaurant, before the show.

This trip is in conjunction with the Saline Senior Center and will be a stop on our trip.

Pittsfield Senior Center is within the Parks & Recreation Dept of Pittsfield

Township and is primarily funded by Pittsfield Township taxpayer dollars.


The Senior Center offers:

  • Dance classes
  • Fitness classes
  • Enrichment classes/activities
  • Day Trips
  • Special Events
  • Workshops
  • Coffee
  • Wifi
  • Games


Senior Center Annual Membership:

  • $5/R (for residents) or
  • $10/NR (for non-residents)


Payments for Pittsfield Township activities, classes or day trips can be made with cash, check or credit card.

PSI Travel Group Membership


Pittsfield Seniors Inc (PSI) Travel Group is a non-profit organization that was created to facilitate extended travel trips. They also host other events like Freebie Fridays, holiday party, casino trips and potlucks. Pittsfield Township provides the space for these activities to occur.


PSI Travel Group Membership is $5/year (regardless of residency).


This is a separate membership in

addition to the Pittsfield Senior Center Membership. If you plan to participate in PSI activities or extended trips, please sign up for this membership in addition to your Senior Center membership.


All payments to PSI must be made by check, payable to PSI.


Questions regarding PSI policies or trips can be directed to the contact

The PSI Travel Group potlucks are moving! Starting in September, they are the third Wednesdays at 11am - 9/18, 10/16 and 11/20.

July Potluck is scheduled for 7/24 and August is scheduled for 8/28.
