TOUR GUIDELINES
TERMINAL MODERNIZATION PROGRAM AT PITTSBURGH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Thank you for your interest in touring the Terminal Modernization Program construction site at
Pittsburgh International Airport. As you consider your visit, please keep in mind the following rules and
guidelines:
1. Tours require a two-week notice.
2. The preferred day and time for site tours are Thursdays from 2pm to 4pm. Tours will run
approximately 60-90 minutes.
3. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) is required to be on site.
a. Hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, and high-vis vests will be made available to you once you arrive on site.
b. You are responsible for wearing appropriate attire in order to be permitted on site. This includes a sleeved shirt (no tank tops), long pants (no shorts or skirts), and proper footwear – 6” above the ankle leather work boots.
c. Individuals must wear the proper PPE throughout their entire visit. Please consider leaving jewelry at home or in your vehicle. Any member of the tour group unable to ACAA’s PPE policy will not be allowed out on the site.
4. Individuals should be aware that the 60–90-minute tour is almost entirely walking. The terrain will be uneven, unpaved, and has the potential to be wet or muddy. ACAA recommends anyone unable to walk long distances safely to kindly refrain from joining the tour, as accommodations cannot be made on the construction site. For everyone’s safety, service animals will not be permitted on site.
5. Children must be at least 16 years old to be on the construction site. Guests under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
6. Personal items: Cell phones are allowed on site, but photography/videography is prohibited without permission of the ACAA. Cell phones are not to be used while walking on site due to safety hazards such as but not limited to falling as well as dropping the phone creating a projectile hazard. Wallets, keys, bags, food and beverage items, and other personal belongings should remain at home or secured in your vehicle. No bags, backpacks, purses etc. will be allowed onsite during the tour.
7. Tours will take place rain or shine, and in all temperatures. Please dress appropriately for the day’s forecast, and don’t forget the sunscreen. Please keep in mind if your tour is in the summer months as the potential for overheating increases while wearing the required PPE.
8. The ACAA reserves the right to delay or cancel a tour due to reasons such as: operational needs, safety concerns, extreme weather, or an emergency on the site or at Pittsburgh International Airport.
ACAA’s Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) team is responsible for your wellbeing on the site. Please review the section of the EH&S manual as it pertains to visitors on the site:
9. Visitors
All visitors to the project will be required to sign in with the Construction Manager, at which time they will receive a visitor safety orientation for the project. Personnel thoroughly familiar with the EH&S requirements of the job will escort all visitors. Prior to entering the site, all visitors shall sign the Visitor’s Release Form and go through the Visitor Orientation (Refer to Appendix VII, available upon request).
Escorted Visitors Requirements
Non-construction personnel, visitors or groups shall be accompanied at all times by an authorized representative of ACAA, the Project Management Office, Construction Manager/Prime Contractor, or other designee that is familiar with the site hazards, and properly badged on the project.
The following items are necessary prior to a visitor accessing any construction site:
• The “Visitor’s Release,” provided in Appendix VII shall be signed by all visitors/tour groups prior to accessing the TMP.
• Display a visitor’s site badge on the outer garment at all times.
• Don the required PPE.
Visitor Safety Orientation
• Before entering the project, all visitors shall receive a safety orientation on site-specific hazards expected to be encountered during the tour or visit, to include but not limited to things such as holes, trip hazards, potentially open electrical wiring, nails, exposed rebar, partially completed framing, excessive noise, dust, vibration, hazards from falling objects, project signage, moving equipment, and other conditions that present hazards, dangers, and risks of potential injury, illness, and/or property damage.
Number of Escorted Persons
• The number of escorted persons on tours shall be proportionate to the degree of the hazards and operating space involved but may not exceed ten visitors per authorized group representative.
• Visitors shall be escorted at all times by authorized group representatives and shall have one representative at the front and rear of the group at all times.
• Preplanned routes shall be established prior to the tour.
The ACAA reserves the right to restrict visitors to certain parts of the construction site for safety reasons.
