Junior Achievement Volunteers Needed
Each year, 6th graders and 8th graders in Gwinnett County have the opportunity to participate in an amazing field trip to JA BizTown (6th grade) and JA Finance Park (8th grade). To make the day successful, JA requests parents and business members serve as volunteers to work with small groups of students as part of the experience.

JA BizTown creates an unmatched experience where 6th grade students are able to interact within a simulated economy and take on the challenge of fueling a business. Here, students not only discover the intricacies of being a professional and member of the community, but also discover the abundance of opportunities available within their city.

At JA Finance Park 8th graders have the rare opportunity to experience their personal financial futures first-hand. Here, 8th grade students participate in an immersive simulation that enables them to develop skills to successfully navigate today's complex economic environment and discover how decisions today can impact tomorrow.

We would LOVE for parents and community members to volunteer to facilitate some of the groups, and the experience this learning experience themselves. Sign up using the link below!

Peach State Federal Credit Union
Peach State Federal Credit Union wants you to know that all of Gwinnett County Public School parents are eligible to join Peach State because their child attends a GCPS school.

Community Service
The IB MYP focus on community service and action is meant to encourage and enable students to:
  • generate creative new insights and develop deeper understandings of local and global issues
  • communicate effectively in a variety of situations
  • demonstrate responsible action through, or as a result of, learning
  • appreciate the process of learning in service to and for others and take pride in their accomplishments.
At Pinckneyville, we want to expand classroom learning to the community and beyond. To do so, students are encouraged to identify areas where they can apply personal strengths to organizations or areas in need.

Students should begin service and action hours and use the electronic log (see link on the left) to record hours for 2017-18. (10+ hours by May 1) Be sure to keep proof of service with signatures in your agenda book. Teachers will verify hours at different points during the year!

Local School Council
It's that time of year to elect Local School Council members to serve for Pinckneyville Middle School.

The Local School Council brings parents, teachers, and school leaders together to support and improve education. Gwinnett County Public Schools and Pinckneyville Middle School have always relied on these important groups.  Our bylaws allow for at least five (not to exceed ten) parent representatives on this important advisory council.

Nominations for School Council will be open from August 21- September 22, 2017.   All nominations must be received in the office of the Principal by September 22.  A nomination application is attached and may also be found in the front office of the school.   In addition to the application, the person you nominate will be required to submit a brief paragraph explaining why he or she is interested in serving on the Local School Council.

The election of School Council members will be held during early release conferences at Pinckneyville Middle School from 8:15AM - 4:00PM, September 27th and 28th.  Please mark your calendar and stop by the front office to cast your vote for the parent representatives on the School Council.

The following are a few of the commitments for Local School Council members:
  • Serve for two years (unless the parent no longer meets qualifications).
  • Attend quarterly meetings during the school year.  The times and dates of these meetings will be finalized at the first meeting on Friday, October 14, 2016 at 8:00 AM.
  • Demonstrate a cooperative spirit in working with all members of the School Council.
Please carefully consider candidates for these positions on our School Council.  We look forward to continuing the great tradition of working together as a team to support student learning.

Foyer Greeters Needed For Recurring Shifts
Do you have a friendly personality? Like to be helpful? Enjoy interacting with people?  Join the ranks of the foyer greeter volunteers.  We help students check in and out on the computer, provide direction to parents who come in to find the nurse's office, counselors or are there to register a new student and make the first impression of our school a positive.

Talking Teen
The events that took place in Charlottesville this past weekend were chilling and heartbreaking.  Many of us might be struggling with how to discuss the issues that have been brought up.  Here are some ideas to help begin the dialogue from the Southern Poverty Law Center.

1.  Expose your child to multicultural experiences by intentionally expanding your circle of friends and experiences.

2.  Encourage your children to become activists.

3.  Examine the media your children consume, from internet sites to the commercials during their favorite TV shows.

4.  Model inclusive language and behavior.

5.  Look inside yourself for biases and stereotypes.  We all grow up with prejudices.  Acknowledging them and working through them can be a scary and difficult process.  It's also one of the most important steps toward breaking down the walls of silence that allow intolerance to grow.  Luckily, we all possess the power to overcome our ignorance and fear, and to influence our children, peers, and communities.
